For some reason when Internet use option is on, the phone connects to the WiFi but it doesn't allow you to use the data on the phone. So for example you can't access a webpage on your phone.

I have an unlimited data plan on my phone but if my phone is connected to the car WiFi, it tries to use that to access the internet instead of using 4G so you get 'Safari can't access this page' message on the phone.

Turning off the Internet option still keeps access to CarPlay/AA but now your phone is using 4G.

Basically, if you don’t have a data plan for the car, there is no benefit in having Internet Use enabled. It’s just likely to cause issues.

Yeah agreed. Using the T mobile hotspot. On my 3rd 1 free month....

Hi All,

I'm having the same problem described here with Wifi.

My Samsung S20 is fine with other Wifi sources and will correctly use 4G when needed. But not in the car, it stays connected to the Wifi and has not internet. Very annoying when meeting people and expecting WhatsApp messages!

I completely understand the idea of disabling "internet" in the car so that my phone will still connect to Android Auto but then fullback to 4G for its own internet.

I tried to disable Wifi, but I'm having trouble.

So,

Step 1: General Settings > Mobile Devices > Settings > Wifi (disable)

Step 2: Home > Android Auto

This turns Wifi back, my phone connects and I'm back to "no internet" on my phone.

If I repeat Step 1. Android Auto disconnects and I go round in circles.

So there must be another option I can't find that turns off "Internet Use" without affecting the cars Wifi right?

hey are you still having this issue
i had a similar issue when using my iphone
when you are auto connected just go to setting on your phone then click on the BMW connection then then click on the "forget this connection"
then you shoud be able to use your phone data and BMW wifi

Thanks kinu93, iPhone's must work differently to Android.

In my situation the phone (Samsung S20 5G) must be connected to the BMW's Wifi connection for Android Auto to work.

If I disconnect my phone from the BMW Wifi, Android Auto wants to connect again. If I "forget connection", Android Auto stops working.
