That's still an option on the previous, better looking, generation. Still has the wonderful b58 to play with.

Comical thread, we all have our opinions, M340i is plenty fun for me and unlike some of these newbs I started driving BMW's since the E36 era so not exactly a newcomer. There are some who find the X3M boring, hell we've had guys dump theirs for the M340i, imagine that. These threads are pointless and just getting ridiculous. I don't know in what world some people live in but there are countless shitty new cars out there and people buy them daily.

M340i is not one of them especially coming from folks who daily gigantic SUV's. I can run circles around you all day in my M340i. Fucking preposterous, sigh.

Maybe if you daily an Exige you've got the gall to talk, otherwise please stop.

I intended this thread to be about driving impressions, but every single post these days degrade into a comparison pissing match, because of attitudes and posts just like this.

People can have differing opinions. You're free to yours as are others.

Most people and reviews agree that the M340 has an excellent powertrain and chassis, is great at the limit, and overall a technically excellent car. However they also note that at sane speeds at or near speed limits it's not a very engaging car. These are people who also have been driving BMWs for many decades.

Take it as you will. We can all agree to disagree.

Surprisingly the 0-60 for 2007 335i is almost same as that of 2016 335i. 9 years and no progress? Similar horsepower too. My stage 2 2016 435ix can barely do 4.2s on a good day 😝 3.8s is fast!

..my point in saying 6MT is there is no G22 option in the M440i ( or any G22 variant ), I am in the vast minority but I was really hoping to have this option this generation.

The reason for some to get an M4 (G82) over the M440i (G22) is the fact that a 6MT, possibly the last in a 4-sieres coupe' (period).. heck, who knows if the full G82 life will continue the 6MT.

Agree, especially in LCI, the E90 and especially the E92 are beauties in my eyes (I know some may feel different).
Agree, perfect size too. They just keep getting bigger.

I will say from my experience all cars I have owned including the E36/E46's manual transmissions were all boring at sane speeds. I see people adding countless driver aids to their cars. Self steer in stop and go, auto lane change etc those are what I consider boring. If you want to drive a car at sane speeds, a BMW would be a waste when a Corolla can adequately suffice.

N55 is more reliable than the N54. Better response, lower maintenance (no 40k mile walnut blasting). The F30 is larger than the e90. The F30 also has better efficiency while maintaining similar stock performance.

I agree, I meant progress in 0-60 and engine horsepower No doubt N55 is way more refined and reliable.

I am lucky enough to DD my S3 Exige which you don't get in the States.

2640lbs and 410rwhp from a 3.5l Toyota V6 with a TVS1900 strapped to it. ... it certainly maintains your perspective and leads to laughing out loud any time you open the throttle 😉

We've all owned previous models of BMWs yet we kept coming back.

Idk I much prefer the out going f30/32. The 340i/440i have the same motor and were absolutely stellar performers.

I wouldn't say the M340i 'is not a very engaging car to drive' at the speed limit. Apart from a numb steering (as in all modern day Bmw's), I find it can be engaging even at around national speed limits particularly in Sports mode. Having owned Bmw's since the E30 era IMO the M340i is certainly one of the better Bmw's I've had.

the M440i has higher output, isn't it the b58tu? compression/turbo variations? fairly certain x40i didn't have the 48v e-motor, which joe specifically calls out multiple times.

but I also prefer the f32 styling and think the x40is are stellar performers.

Guys reviews are so dry.
You never get a full understanding or appreciation of the car.

+1 I loved my 2011 335xi coupe! Great car. Spec'd in MSport in LeMans blue.(they changed to N55 (dual scroll single turbo that year so the Dinan stage1 helped with the slight turbo lag.)

Stills shows in My BMW Garage...I wonder who is the happy owner now
Same! I just ordered a new car, and I noticed my old '09 335 coupe, space grey (best color ever) is still hanging out there.

Last year they put the N54 in the thing.
I got rid of an e90 335i manual m sport 2 yrs ago and I miss that car so much. The size, hydraulic steering, useable power and simpleness of the car (no drive modes or gimmicks) was perfect. Never should have let it go.

E90 and e92 are one of the best designs in the world. The rwd, size, 50/50, steering, practicality, simplicity and I6 turbo or NA is unmatched. I wish P would build a car like E90. They would sell like hot cakes.

Just sit and drive. I think I will always have one.
