Brakes grinding on morning start

I’ve noticed my brakes make a bit of a grinding noise 1st thing in the morning. The way you would hear after not driving for a while. But it’s every morning. It soon goes away after a while. Perhaps I’m just more aware of it as it’s so quiet in electric mode. But I tried my wife’s wee Peugeot and it’s nothing like the BMW.

Is there a problem do you think?

I have a similar thing most days but as has been mentioned it's gone pretty quickly after you start driving.

Normal. Plus, as you drive a 330e the brakes get used a lot less than with a non-hybrid car. Much of your braking will be done by the regen system.

Ok, nothing to worry about.

Just seems odd that the wife’s little 208 doesn’t suffer the same problem and does a fraction of the driving I do.

Thanks.

.....but isn't getting any braking effect from the regen system? Or she brakes a lot harder than you and possibly more frequently!

To be honest all the recent BMW's and Mini's I've had have always had a slight grinding noise on the brakes re first couple of presses......just got used to it.

It's likely to be a light coating of overnight rust that's being scrubbed off by the brake pads to make sure the brakes work when you need them to (i.e. a feature not a bug).

The system does a very light 'rolling brake test' when you first drive off as well which is imperceptible to the driver, they have done for years now!

Yep normal, mostly when its been damp weather though due to disc surface. Your car being silent will make it more obvious. You wife's 208 will also be a slightly different disc material less prone to oxidation.
