I think those with Individual color option will likely build at the plant in Germany.

So I currently own an F30 but soon to be a proud owner of 2021 M340i xdrive. My question is, does anyone know why the 2021 builds aren't assembled in Germany, but in Mexico instead and whether that messes with the overall quality of the vehicle?

Also, I noticed that a recent software update deleted the burbles and pops that the 2020 models made. Wtf is that about??

Thanks in advance guys. If I did post in the wrong thread, if someone could point me in the right direction, I'll happily remove my post and re-post where it belongs

You would need to find one with Individual paint or an allocation with Individual paint. In terms of build quality, it's the same machines and process as the plant in Munich. I wouldn't be concerned so much about where it's built.

Thanks for the reply man. I know for a fact mine is assembled in MX due to the VIN startin with '3M'. Now i'm not so inclined to get it lol. I really don't understand why they started doing that. All this money and they assemble the damn things in MX? Like WTF

What exactly is the individual color option? Any idea where I'd be able to find that out? Mine is already built and has a VIN starting with 3M which I believe is the Mexico plant designation so it's definitely built there lol

Something like Verde Ermes color or those 'Frozen' colors, just not sure about 'Priority 1' color consider as Individual color option or not.

I believe it's any color that is not part of the standard mass production allotment of colors. Ones listed on the order sheet include Dravit Grey and tanzanite blue II but I've seen others come out as well. Unsure if you need special permission for things like green or nardo grey.

I've ordered tanzanite blue for my m340i and it was produced in Germany.

Only reason they don't produce 3-series at the Mexico plant with those individual colors was lack of capability to apply them I believe. Once/If they are able to, I'm sure they'll produce most if not all 3-series from there.

I wouldn't be too worried about the quality, if that's your concern. It's still the same German engineering and management, just with Mexican labor, of which I have a high regard for both.

I honestly would expect the same or better quality, due to the newness of the factory and (what I expect to be) close scrutiny of the output. Now if you were hoping for a German car to be built in Germany just because...I totally get that.

Yea my reasoning is pretty much your last sentence. I mean I pay all this money for a german car and it's friggin assembled in Mexico. I realize it sounds stupid but oh well
