So an interesting snippet about OTA possibly not occurring.

Mine is going into dealer for service and all the various niggles, (software update is on the list to be performed) 1st visit in two years. Apparently from the service dept………if the car logs a fault then OTA can get inhibited. Not sure if this is true but mine has had several display blackouts, idrive hangs etc. So conceivably this may have locked out OTA for me, I am still on 07/2019.

Be interesting to see if my car has logged any faults when it visits for its service.

..... I too are still on this version of idrive and have made numerous attempts to move to newer versions only to consistently fail and given after a very recent incident whereby a fast moving ball hit the radar sensor during a kickabout in the MiL's street as I was pulling in I have had a driving assistance temporarily unavailable pop up now and again I wonder if this is now playing a part in it.

Can anyone share a screenshot of where in the app you can search for updates as I can't see the option anywhere! Thanks.

You can’t search for updates as such, the app announces when one is available and downloads it to your phone. When you’re then in the vehicle it uploads from your phone. When you next shutdown (assuming the upload completed) it will prompt you to begin installation, if you have sufficient battery change.

Ok understood thanks. I found the section in vehicle services which currently says no software upgrade available so guess I will just have to be patient.

Mine seems to be taking an age "Preparing". (copying from the phone to the car I assume). Not used the car a huge amount, a couple of 30-45 min round trips, but so far its been two days and counting... got to 81%.

Unless it is my car (MY20) playing up, I've noticed a change when selecting drive mode. No longer does it show up on iDrive and therefore no longer can you change individual settings as easily as used to be. Now have to go through Car>settings etc

Also the cockpit display now seems to be able to change with the different drive modes, though not sure whether that was always there and me not having found it before.

Other than remembering driver intervention settings I haven’t noticed any other changes with 2021/03-50

The release notes are actually quite good, and available both in the car and the app. They list the main changes (which as you say, aren't many this time round).

Happy days mine is installing in the car as I type!

I just think back to when I first started driving in a mk1 fiesta and just thought if I'd said to myself in 25 years or so you would be announcing on a mobile computer (phone), to a load of people you have never met, about how happy you are that your bmw that does 0 to 60 in under 4.5 sec, is updating itself with no wires to allow you to switch off a setting where the car reads the roads and automatically adjusts itself back into a lane whilst driving.

Mine is also now updating, it was at 40% when I popped in to check it earlier. I assume it will just download slowly whilst sat on the drive or do I need to plan a trip? 😀

Well I left it on the drive for a couple of days and the percentage didnt shift, however I drove it for a couple of hours today and it finished the download and is now installed. No more steering intervention tick, woohoo!
