How hot does your phone get?

As my car didn't come with the Technology pack (it was a stock car I didn't spec) I was looking to retro fit wireless charging. I bought one of these which was easy to fit and initially seemed to work really well:

However when on a long trip at the weekend with CarPlay running on my iPhone XS whilst on the charger I noticed the phone and area around it got really hot, to the point the phone became unresponsive when I tried to use it (CarPlay continued to work fine).

I saw a few posts about similar issues with the factory option and I wondered if people saw the same? I'm ok with sending this one back and buying the OEM charging mat if needed.

Note 8 here and it does get rather hot. I can't compare it too any other wireless charger as I wire it in the house but I've never had it become unresponsive.

I don't use my wireless pad for anything other then short journeys. My iphone get really hot and then it stops working and carplay stops. Much better just pluging into the usbc in the armrest as it rapid charges and is always connected.
