Coming from a 340i in Estoril Blue I really loved my color choice and I get so much compliments on it.
For the M340i I'd personally go with Portimao. I love how its a sharper Estoril Blue and I feel that it looks great in all lighting conditions unlike the Tanzanite which looks better in direct sunlight but with anything else it just looks like a normal dark blue. I feel its the same story with Dravit Grey so for me its a toss up between the Dravit and Portimao.

I love blue BMWs.
I like both PB and TB but Portimao reminds me of Le Mans Blue from the E9X M3 & Msport. Never fell in love with the Estoril Blue II from the F30. |

Portimao is a nice color but it looks a bit purple in some conditions. Not for me. I am rolling the dice on Tanzanite II. Hoping it is as attractive in person as in the pics above. I just didn't want gray, black, or white. Sunset is okay but not as nice as Sakhir.

In Europe, Estoril was always a pretty popular colour, and so while nice, it was never bound to get much attention. Where I live in the Middle East in the 2 years since I've owned my 330e I've seen one other 3 series (period, not just the plug-in) in Estoril blue, and I still get compliments on a weekly basis because it simply stands out next to all the other White/Grey/Silver ones. I like the Portimoa Blue (though only seen it in the showroom) but personally I think it's nowhere near as special as Estoril Blue, and I'm disappointed they dropped it. If I replace mine soon I'll be considering other colours while if the EB was on offer I would have no hesitation. |

I think they are both good Blues but I like that TB changes with the weather.

Tanzanite Blue II
I think I prefer the Tanzanite Blue II. The way it looks like a different color in the sun vs. the shade makes it interesting. It also seems so much more glossy than the Portimao Blue. My last car was Deep Sea Blue and I really liked that color. I see a lot of people say they are ordering a car. Are most here buying the car or leasing the car?

I can see if you're a forum junkie (not saying I'm not) you might think Portimao blue will be common and everywhere. I don't think it will be. Look at dealer inventories near you or do a search on cars.com or autotrader.com where it shows you quantity per color as I have been lately while I shop for a new ride. PB is out there but I wouldn't say it's common. TBII is certainly a rare color although I actually saw it in person last weekend (I've yet to see PB in person). In the sun TBII looks stunning, but on the parts of the car that weren't in the sun the color looked very pedestrian, boring actually.

Yes you are right we should be putting things into perspective. On the other hand of all the new 3 series I've seen driving on the road so far nearly all of them were Portimao. Could of course also be caused by the fact they stand out above all the other Grey and black ones.
Haven't seen a single red or orange driving around here though..

Stunning, thanks for sharing. Its less exciting than orange but just beautiful because of it being more basic and simplistic. I love it.
