For those with Downpipe & Intake - Any regrets?
Looking to get a downpipe & Intake after I do a JB4 install. Preference of sound is subjective, but anyone here regret the install of either or both of these?
It's hard to gauge how livable the sound will be from Youtube videos. In a perfect world it would be loud and fast in Sport Plus and quiet in comfort. |

Zero regrets here - I am running a catted DP through the stock exhaust (which is just a muffler) and the sound is aggressive but not obnoxious. I think you'll be surprised how much volume of sound you pick up with just the DP I'm not running an intake (just a drop in dry filter) so I can't help there. And I am flashed (given I have a 2020) so that also gives me a decent amount of control over my exhaust - a piggyback will not have any impact on your exhaust. |

No regrets here either. I have DP, intake and exhaust (AWE resonated touring).
Difference between Sport+ and Comfort (MP Stg2 e30 map)mainly is the extra pops/burbles (not running "extra" burbles btw). Bigger factor for you will be if you run catless or hi-flow catted DP. |

I don't have an intake yet but no regrets with my Active Autowerke catted downpipe, I really love it. Like chenry said, it's more aggressive, deeper, and louder but not overly loud at all. IMO it is sometimes hard to tell the difference in Comfort mode. Sport + is a different story, you can definitely tell something isn't stock.

How much louder is the car with the DP added to the AWE? I have the same ECU as you do but I have the OEM dp |

1. I didn’t want to have to deal with the smell of a catless (I do smell it slightly but I know it’s way subdued compared to no cat at all 2. Overall tone. DP was one of my first mods and I originally wasn’t planning on touching the exhaust. After watching a bunch of different clips with different set ups. I preferred every setup that had a catted DP set up. Overall, keeps a deeper tone imo. It can get loud definitely, but compared to other cars it’s definitely way more subtle. There’s a lot of hellcats and mustangs in my area. I can’t speak on cold starts because I opted for the cold start delete on my tune but I imagine it’s probably loud. Loudness is subjective of course with everyone’s own opinion on what they are willing to deal with. Catted DP with stock exhaust made it deeper and just more pops/burbles in Sport+ with the overall volume only slightly going up. Catted DP with AWE amplified the sound more, tone was still deep. However, just need to remember that I have a catted DP with resonators and exhaust canisters. There are basically 3 options for the exhaust. Resonated touring quietest, non-resonated touring middle ground, and track being loudest of course. All of which again get affected by your choice of catted vs catless DP. All catted DPs are also not created equal. The Catted DPs that guarantee no CEL generally have a higher cell count which also directly affects the sound amplification. I originally wanted the CG1 catted downpipe but was back ordered for so long that I changed my order to an evolution racewerks one. I helped a friend install the Active Autoworks Catted DP on their 2020 x5 40i and I honestly couldn’t tell a difference sound wise. |

^ Cool. I have the non-res touring and so if I got a catted downpipe I have been told that I would have to change to res touring. Too much of a hassle, really. That's why I'm thinking of just leaving my set up (which already sounds great!) alone.
I am already fooling with cats (and a tune coming up!) on my Porsche and I don't want to deal with emissions issues on 2 cars as well But I can't help but be curious if a catted dp on the BMW will improve power and turbo leg ever so slightly?

I only see customers regretting a downpipe when they get catless. Eventually, they get tired of the fuel smell and switch to the catted option.

I have a CTS Intake and Catless downpipe. Zero regrets. The car feels amazing and it's not even tuned yet. If you have the valve plugged in, it's not bad at all. But with the valve wide open, on start, it's pretty loud.

I listended some online videos with intakes on BMW's and to me they just sound ricey... On Honda's and these other cars it's "kool". I just find it ricey on a proper german car.... I had it on my wrx and I found the swooshing sound very annoying after a while

Have Evolution Racewerks highflow catted downpipe with CTS turbo CAI. Sounds really good. My neighbor said he can hear my car a block away. I'm waiting for an exhaust so I can finally get Bootmod3 and dyno tested. Freak'n exhaust was ordered in November...ugh

Our catless downpipe sounds great and the smell isn't to bad. I only ever smell it if sitting at a light and wind is blowing from behind with windows down.
