I went from a 2013 328i non-M to a 2021 330i non-M.
The biggest differences of F30 vs G20 are summarized in this article, and I get to enjoy these improvements daily. https://jalopnik.com/the-engineering...ing-1830257906 |

Pros of G20 m340 vs f30 340
1) limited slip rear diff 2) better suspension all around 3) apple car play 4) slightly bigger turbo and more power Cons of G20 1) no more 6spd 2) sunroof is smaller and doesn’t open all the way (pet peeve) 3) HK stereo sounds a lateral at best, not better than F30 4) exhaust tips on F30 look sportier |

Have owned and driven both (more than 20000 miles each). As almost everyone else said, G20 is more solid, feels more confident. Amazing fuel economy and performance! I just find that it is a big car and drives like it. If you pull up next to an older 5 series or way older 7 series- you’ll see.

I came from a 2017 330i sport, my observations so far:
1.) Better handling/comfort suspension, huge improvement. 2.) Car is quieter, F30 had too much wind noise above 70mph. 3.) Laserlights illuminate the night like no other, always felt the LEDs on the F30 were weak compared to the xenons. 4.) Interior just looks more modern and fresh. 5.) Newer and more responsive idrive system 6.) Better fuel mileage. 7.) More room for front and rear passengers. 8.) Transmission shifts smoother. 9.) Of course the steering is better, way better. Only things I miss from the F30 are the padded leather covered elbow rests on the front doors and the extra heft of the doors. G20 doors seem really light and lack that German car "thunk" sound.

From 2015 328i
To 2019 330i Both were CPOs, low miles G20 is better in every way EXCEPT the seats. They are tight and too hard. I am a bigger guy with lower back issues (fused L4-5). Built up a foam pad for seat bottom to mitigate issues. Wish I had my F seats! Also, software update system is Windows XP level.... |

I’ve had several F30’s and two F80s. Now in my G82 so I’ll comment on what the F and G chassis overall.
The G chassis is stiffer. This leads to sharper steering and handling. The G20 is a much better feeling sports sedan than the F30 and is almost on the same level as the F80, but not quite. The interior, imho, is overall improved save the center console. The flat relatively featureless buttons don’t read well by touch like the F30. I still have to look down to activate buttons by sight in the G. The F, you could interface by feel. The ambient lighting is much more noticable and pronounced in the G and unlike in the F, you can change the colors.

From an F to G standpoint: 1. The G is much larger. My wife and kids are a lot more comfortable and the car has a lot more presence on the road. 2. The G is much more luxurious. The fit and finish and design touches in the interior, from the door handles to the seat design to the LED lighting, it's a big step up. 3. The G has a much more refined ride. It feels heavier but not in a bad way, in a planted way, just a more confident ride. BMW nailed the balance of sport/comfort this time (Note I had/have the Adaptive M Suspension on both F and G). 4. Amazingly, despite being larger, more luxurious, and more refined, the thing still accelerates and handles like the F's, maybe even moreso. From a Sedan to Gran Coupe standpoint: 1. Because BMW decided to radically change the design of the GC on the G vs. the F, it really feels like you're driving something special now, truly a unique car that's disconnected from the Sedan. Used to be the GC looked just like the Sedan, was subtly different. BMW went wild with the GC design and no one confuses the two now. Can't tell you how often I get stopped and get complimented and asked questions, people just love it. 2. I never, ever see other GC's on the road where I'm seeing 4-5 Sedans per day. 3. So where the difference between the F GC and the G GC used to be all about utility, now it's actually a matter of style. So if you like to be different and don't mind attention, the G GC is a vast improvement over the F. |

RCook Agree with the seat's bottom being to firm and lack of padding. I'm still looking for a solution. How do you build up the foam pad?

I've had a couple of different BMWs in the past few years, so my perception and memory of each car might be a bit off.
My 2015 335i had adaptive suspension and felt stiffer and more sporty in the Sport\Sport+ modes; however, my 2022 M340i had a regular suspension that sucked. It was too comfy and disconnected, and there was too much body roll. That was my least favorite thing about that car. Felt heavier too. I got the car during the pandemic, so they had removed a few features (touchscreen, etc) due to the chip shortage and it just wasn't as well equipped as my 335. Android Auto without touchscreen is practically useless and annoying. The rear sunshade in the F series was a nice touch too, which I miss. One of the most annoying things about the G series is the physical buttons they have around the gear selector. You can't really find the right buttons without looking directly at them. In my 335, I could switch driving modes in an instant by just feeling out the buttons. Their positioning and the feel of the buttons was superior to what they've done in the G series. In G80, you don't even get that many physical buttons (even with ID7). If it wasn't for the M buttons, I'd go insane. On the positive side, my M340 was definitely quieter and felt more comfy than both my 335 and my 2018 F80 M3. Less tire and wind noise. Better cup holders, wireless\resting location for my phone, Android auto, etc. I had wireless charging in my F80's tiny center console, but it was designed for 4inch iphones and couldn't hold bigger phones. My 335i needed a cradle for charging phones, which was another BMW gimmick that never caught on. The 360 cameras in the G series are way ahead of the F. Although, I did like the front-side cameras of the F that allowed you to see the incoming traffic as you pulled out of a narrow streets or driveway. Overall, with the right options and packages the G series is way ahead of the F series. It's a lot more refined with better technology and upgrades everywhere. The downside is that they're bigger and heavier. I'd pick an F80 with DCT over an M340i, but G80 xDrive is the best overall.
