New 330e charging queries...

Hi all, got my 330e yesterday and nowhere to charge at home at the moment so restricted to trying out my local Pod Point at M&S.

I noticed when the car arrived yesterday that the range was 21 miles. I've used the car for some short runs and ran out of electric yesterday evening. Probably done about 20 miles or so. Plugged in to charge this evening and full range only showing as 22 miles. Is this normal for other UK owners and would this improve after some more charging? I know there seems to be a lot of variances depending on weather, driving style etc but I've literally been pottering about and enjoying the quietness compared to my previous car

Had mine since November and I have a home Podpoint. I very rarely get more than 22 miles from a full charge regardless of weather. I’ve had 26 miles a couple of times but drops immediately on start up. Sorry to disappoint 😐

Cheers for the quick reply. Yes, was certainly expecting a bit more, to be honest 😫

Is podpoint good. I have one being fitted in a couple of weeks. Hope I have made a good choice. They seem difficult to get hold of on the phone?

Mine had 26 miles showing when I collected it on 5 Oct, but since then, the most it has shown is 22 miles. I charge it daily at work all day, so I have no idea why the delivery miles indication has never been seen again........ 🙄

Got back to the car and it was showing 24 miles in one bit, but randomly showing 23 as well?! Then after setting off in Sport mode, it dropped to 22. So I think 22 miles is going to be the norm!

I’ve had my 330e for only about 10 days, also in Sheffield, so same temperatures. The most range at 100% charge has been 26 miles.
Currently showing 21 miles at 95% charge.

If you are interested in getting a home charging point fitted, I used these https://evchargers.co.uk/. Got a EO Mini Pro fitted.
Very pleased with it.

Cheers for the info. Said 24 miles this morning but soon drops even just pottering around. Enjoying the car so far though.

Will look out for you! 👀

I've my 330e for just over a week now and still trying to figure a lot out.

I'm waiting on the installation of the chargepoint at home (hopefully next week) so am restricted to charging on a standard home socket. This takes about 11 hours at the moment so it's rare enough to have the car fully charged.

However I did have a full charge yesterday and it showed 41km of range which is 25.5miles. I did a 95km (59mile) round trip and set it to adaptive. I drove at normal speeds in a mix of motorway, rural and urban and it showed a return of 3.1l/100km (91mpg) .. I was very surprised at this as I didn't adjust my driving style and the battery hit 0% as I pulled back in the driveway.

In reality how long does it take to fully charge on an installed homecharge point ?

OP, I've had mine 4 months now. Since lockdown 18-22 miles is about spot on.

Before that I could get 30 miles on my commute (mainly motorway with a long stretch at 50)

So the car is fine :-)

also I notice it's set to hybrid mode. You can set the default to electric, which is how I've got mine at the moment.

Sorry, did you code that or do we have that option already in the drive menu somewhere?

If it's of any help to the OP, I've been charging mine at home with the help of a 10 metre extension lead. I know it's not recommended but if you use a good quality one rated for high power, and don't have it coiled, it seems to work satisfactorily. It's slow though but I leave mine charging overnight.

I usually get 25-26 miles out of a charge, but it does go up if the journey is right, ie not stopping and starting.

Cheers for the info. I've been doing lots of short trips around town etc so imagine not ideal for getting the most out of the electric range. Guess if you get a decent run you can make more of the regen/coasting whereas Sheffield is built on 7 hills!

+1 above,i use a high power extension cable to an outside socket with an rcd plug and it usually takes 4-5 hours to fully charge.

So after nearly a year with my G20 330E I’ve only managed to average around 23 miles of indicated electric power at 100% charge using a Podpoint home charger. This of course is nowhere near the 37-40 mile range claimed by BMW. Am I doing something wrong?

I think the range when charged is slightly irrelevant. I've worked out that whilst it says 21-25 miles when charged (mine varies a bit), you can get much more once you start driving. Yes, it will eat it up around town on shorts runs in electric-only but get out on some flowing roads and you'll do much more. I've had nearly 36 of a 40 miles trip on electric but normally possible to get 30 odd using hybrid mode.

When fully charged, mine says 32 miles, but quite often I actually get closer to 38 as the batteries recharge when driving. Even when I've set the car to 100% on Battery Control, it will use some electrical power and recharge during the journey. On a 90 mile trip, I still covered the equivalent of 8 miles on electrical power and arrived at my destination with a fully charged battery showing a 32 mile range.

Garage List
Adaptive button.

For the last couple of weeks since I’ve had the car I have been quite happily pushing “Electric” to select my choice of Standard or Electric Individual. Pushing “Hybrid” to select Hybrid Standard or Eco Pro. Pushing “Sport” I can select the three options there.

On a 45 mile trip yesterday with a fully charged preconditioned battery and destinations set in Satnav I managed 28.7 miles in Electric Individual before it transferred to Hybrid mode.
I pressed the Adaptive button by mistake and was presented by a new screen - Hybrid Adaptive.

I had thought that button was to change adaptive suspension. (RTFM but it is not clear)

Anyway great driving mode that "adapted" suspension on fast twisty lanes and reverted to comfort in built up areas. More impressive, the regen that was generated was used in real time when going through villages or slow traffic.

Still got home with 0% battery but electric miles overall was 35 and petrol 99mpg.

More Adaptive Hybrid journeys for me...
