Oil change service question.

I have a 2020 M340i (brought it last year September) and due to COVID the car has not been driven a lot due to which the first service that occurs at 5000 miles was done in end of July. Now the has crossed 8k miles and I can see a message when starting the car that says "next service in 8k miles or june 2021" but this time when I go to the service menu in the car, the line that says "next service" has a "OK" next to it. During the first service I could see a yellow exclamation indicating it was due for service.

Not sure if I should take it for a oil change now as the message "next service in 8k miles or june 2021" whichever comes earlier.

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I'm missing something but if you've done 8k miles and it says service due in another 8k miles or June 2021, then I would assume the service is due at 16k miles or June 2021, whichever is first?

I think you are correct, now that I rethink about it, maybe I misread the message as "Service due at 8k miles" instead of "Service due in 8k miles"

I will confirm it once I take the car out for a drive.

Guys to be honest I would say change oil at max 6000 miles or 10 000 km. Don't trust BMW BS about long life oil... There is a lot of tests out there and all prove that a oil after 14-15k km it's losing almost all of his oily properties ... Even you guys at USA have a lot cheaper Oil change, better spend some extra 200$ or so for oil change then after 5-6 years when car is 100k + km to start having failing bearings .. or something else.

My car alerted me before 9K to get oil change so the whole 10k is just an approximation. The car will alert you when due based on your own driving conditions. Mine also occurred way before 12 months as well. Besides if you own the car for 12 months regardless of how little miles are on it, you should change the oil.

Oil change service question.

The oil change intervals stated by BMW are quite drawn out, a reputable shop I know of mentioned a number of cases of F gen vehicles having premature rod bearing issues at as low as 80k km. It doesn't happen to most but having your oil changed a little earlier is a cheap preventative maintenance that may save you from a large repair bill especially if you're planning to keep your car longer than the warranty period.

Most oils that meet BMW specs will easily last 15k km of normal street driving but 20k km will be stretching it. If you're tuned or driving the car hard an oil change should be done sooner.

Talked with two different service advisors, turns out it was 8k miles from the current odo reading.

Agreed, better to be safe than sorry, and cant trust BMW's number much as they have more incentives spreading the oil change interval farther out as they get to pocket less cost during the covered maintenance period.

Yeah cause I'm sure BMW don't factor those costs into the plan either way...

So far, just under 20k miles, 2020 m340, oil changes have been at about 7500-8000 miles. Per the car telling me it is time. Oh although not the subject of this thread, I do need to add a quart about once in between oil changes.

This has been debated many times on here. Oil tests ran at 10k miles on these cars always come back perfect.

The interval for my 2009 335i was 15 miles FYI.
