Wow it's hideous I can't look at it. LCI will happen sooner on this model run. Next

I'm stuck between the M2 and Boxster as my next car. That would make the decision very easy.

This is exactly where I'm at. I welcome a radical design change, mostly because I find the current design language boring and already dated. But if BMW was going to go with the giant grille, I wanted them to go all-in. Make the grille in your face and beautifully sculpted like the 4er Concept. Instead they just tacked two gigantic flat coffins onto the front end.

Weren't these things a sales and PR disaster? Acura abandoned the beak after one generation and they all have more generic grilles now.

Here is the current TLX

Give me proper lease terms, a dark green and manual and I'm in on the G80. At least now when a 330i or m340i puts lame Ebay M stripes on their grills it won't be mistaken for my big ass coffin bois.
I don't disagree overall. In the right spec with the right trim and wheels, maybe you're on to something. A dark green over tan (are we getting anything but black?). hmmmm.....

Something something lipstick on a pig though - that adage I can't seem to shake.

The render actually looked cool after your eyes adjusted to the new look. The real pics are terrible though, don't like the shape of the grills and they don't seem neatly integrated. Plus i think vertical slats would have looked better than horizontal ones

I’m in a car group with about ~20 other 17-23 year olds with Ms/AMGs/RSs. No one likes the look of this. It doesn’t look aggressive, it just looks deformed seems to be the common theme. EVERYONE on Instagram I follow (<25) is panning it. I haven’t seen any positive comments about the appearance from anyone my age. I think people 50+ might like it though.
I'm 50 and have owned over 30 BMW including 5 M cars and wouldn't touch this thing with a 10 foot pole.

I'm in buy mode and this won't even be on the list if it actually looks like that.

Agreed, I'm not in love with this design language (right now I'm in the "don't hate it but appreciate BMWs boldness" camp) but if it performs better than its competition while still offering a manual option, I can look past the acquired taste of a front end. However I do think it'll grow on me more over time and once I see it in person.

I remember when the 8 series rear end "leaked" and everyone thought it looked flat, misshapen and ugly but now a lot of folks claim it's BMW's prettiest car in their current lineup! Bad 2D images can easily ruin complex 3D designs so I'm hoping for more depth and character from press photos/ real life observations.

It’s not about age or nationality, it’s more about a progressive fearless or conservative safe attitude to design. Someone my age from my community will hate it while I love it. Cultural stereotypes do not apply here. It’s fine loving what is and has been and it’s fine to quickly admire new bold designs. I do however expect that by the lci the controversy will be gone and the conservatives will like it while the progressives will start wanting more change

The # of current/future BMW models that I am interested in is approaching zero, and I have owned BMWs since 1993.
I have been here before if you can remember the E60 M5? you had people saying they won't buy it and actually some, well actually a lot did.
The M3 Coupe changeover to M4 was also controversial with I will buy M3 badges and re-badge it. And I never seen that outcome so I presume they left it as the M4?. I can name numerous examples of other BMW models that have felt the wrath of a forum.

But what we are overlooking here is that the focus is on the grille which is really revealed in a poorly shot photograph where not everything is entirely revealed.
I suggest you wait until the official photographs drop soon therefore you can finally make an impression when you see it in high definition. And of course like M2 CS the car will be going on the road so some of you might receive an invite to one of the closed rooms.

As I explained so far all you have seen is a car on a production line hidden behind a pillar and renders.
I guarantee that when you see it officially some will come round to the new interpretation of The BMW M3 but you need to see it first.
So do you think that what we're seeing there is an m3/m4, not a new 4? I'm tryin to make out what's under the hood, not sure it's an M motor ...
