I didn't want to wait for the warranty return period and I checked where the problem could come from. on the photos you can see that there are two led modules, a gray and a violet. The problem comes from the gray which sends the light to the left, I recovered the one from the old trim and placed in the new one and no more brightness problem.
It may help some of you.
sorry for english if there are some mistakes.
Thank you Gtjunior for this awesome explanation! I'm so glad you have solved the issue! It does look like I'll need to get hold of the old trim and try the same. Really a big thank you!

You're welcome.
here is a photo of the part, it is a bit difficult to remove, you have to go with caution.
once removed, connect it to try it out without placing it in the new trim

I went with open-pore oak. If I could I would have brushed aluminum like in my previous car. I like the look of carbon, but I hated the piano black surface that is standard in the center console in the G30, and carbon looks just as glossy to my eye...

Too bad the aluminum-style mesh stuff looks like cheap wraps or something...

Thank you so much. I too had the problem with a bright flash of light in the centre of the ambient lighting dash strip with the passenger side being dimmer. As you discovered replacing the grey LED module on both RHD and LHD cars sorts the issue out. I put the one from my old trim in last night.

It seems that when you are trying to remove the module that it isn't going to detach from the strip. As well as the black clip on the trim there are also two tiny interference parts to the lighting optic strip. Keep gently levering with a flat screwdriver and the module will come away from the lighting strip!

My Service Manager said it was because of my build date, 05/21. Even on realoem.com it says it needs to be coded when you look up the part number. Crazy and I seriously thought it was plug and play. That much money it should be. My Service Manager and Senior Tech did it for free. Thankful I am tight with him. Now if I could only get around being flagged if I tune it. Hope I posted the right pictures. I have a bunch. I could hook the one that came with it snd it would light up. Hook up the carbon fiber and nothing. I actually thought it was broken at first or I did something wrong. Thanks to Xsapper and everyone on this post it was easy to hook up. Thank you everyone again. Sorry for such a late reply. I don't get notifications from Bimmerpost for some reason.
Dealing with the same issue. Bought my CF trim from a place in Germany and that same strip doesn't produce any light. I thought of moving the module over from my stock trim but didn't look removable. After reading this thread will try again!

Thanks for all the info.

Top picture was after the install. Originally installed during day time but then notice there was dim or no light.

Bottom is after swapping both white and purple modules from my stock trim.

Didn’t believe that it came I coded at first, but now it makes sense. Thanks to everyone with this guide. Lifting the large black clip and then using a tiny pick tool to lever back and forth definitely worked.

It looks like that module is attached to a fiber optic cable and isn't supposed to be disconnected from there. Does it just clip back in when reinstalled? Worried I'm going to break the entire led strip.

Any luck with this? I have the same issue where the module looks like it's connected to kind of a glass tube and won't disconnect from it.

Yes, you need to lift up on that large black clip and then wedge a small flathead or small pick tool. The end of the tool should touch and then use it as a level to push back away from the led strip. Yes, when it comes out it sounds like something is breaking but it’s not. Those plastic ends are deeper than they look.

After replacing any of these LEDs(like that on the new trims) you should also perform the LED light addressing test plan so the control unit relearns all the LEDS. This may fix your issue without having to swap the LED over from your old parts.

Is this something a DIY’er can gear up for, or is a dealer visit absolutely required? I have been playing with the LEDs in my G42 and realized they are somehow addressed or what not, and you cannot simply just plug whichever ones or replacement ones in wherever you want and have them work.

If you can get ISTA on a PC then you should be able to perform the test plan.

Have there been any reports of this fixing it? I probably should’ve asked earlier but I received the kit with a 10/22 build date for left hand drive. I thought they would’ve fixed it by now if it was a manufacturing issue.

If someone has access to the procedure, how involved is it? Can I try to work with an independent shop to get it done? My experience with dealers for issues like this is that they don’t get solved there.

You need to use ISTA and perform the LED light addressing test plan to properly teach in the LEDs.
