Anyone put a JB4 on the B48 engine?

Hi all,

See title. Looking to see if:

1) the hp and torque gains are noticeable on the turbo 4
2) its worth it on a car that’s still under warranty
3) any testimonials or horror stories

VipinLJ seems to have the best JB4 numbers around.

Dyno from BMS

Map Guide as of v15+ firmware:

Map0: Stock tuning, fully disable JB4
Map1: Additive map with peak of 3psi over stock added (91 octane)
Map2: Additive map with peak of 4psi over stock added (91-93 octane)
Map3: Additive map with peak of 6psi over stock added (93+ octane)
Map4: Absolute target map with peak of 20psi target (93+ and/or E30 octane) suggested for higher boost models like G chassis, Supra, and Z4. EWG required for proper control.
Map5: Absolute target map with peak of 22psi target (E30+ fuel) suggested for higher boost models like G chassis, Supra, and Z4. EWG required for proper control.
Map6: Custom tuning map allowing both additive (below 10psi) and absolute (above 10psi) targeting. Setting RPM1500 boost below 5.7psi will make entire map6 additive, setting above 6psi will make entire map6 absolute target.
Map7: WMI map (boost varies based on WMI additive, meth flow, and other criteria)
Map8: VALET / Low Boost Map

Quoting what I posted in the same thread you posted in the other subsection.

1. The gains are very noticeable in my case. I'm running a custom map 6. Works well for me.
2. Car is under warranty. I remove the JB4 arpund 500-1000 miles before I take it in for service. Spoke to my SA and he said car hasn't been flagged and zero issues detected *touchwood*
3. No horror stories. I always look at logs. Make sure the car isn't behaving erratically. Only issue I had was when I overfilled E85. Car threw a drivetrain error (no CEL or driveability issues). It went away when I corrected the mix ratio.

Check in the B46/48 subsection for more.

Hi,

Thanks, I’ve seen this chart before and it always throws me off bc I thought
1) b48 should be at at least 250 baseline
2) the hp gains are no where near what bms advertises (~30). Well I guess map 2 get you to the +30…would love to see one at map3 on a stock car

Thanks!

Yup. If you can't get a flash tune, the JB4 is your best bet. You can even get a custom map 6 after getting some logs on stock and map 2. Plus add some E85 and it should scratch your performance itch for a bit!

1) dynos are not meant to measure absolute numbers. Some dyno read higher than others. It's all about the percentage of the delta

2)Map 3 double the boost added by map 1, the power gains from map 3 are significant compared to map 1 and 2

Totally agree! I would prefer a flash tune but am going to go with jb4 since I’ve still got over 40k miles left on my warranty and after all the research I’ve done jb4 seems to be the best piggyback.

Hmm. Interesting…map2 is already a 2x % increased on map 1 so map3 is going to be reckless!

Be careful though. Make sure you check your logs and see how the car is behaving with the gas you put in. To run map 3, 93 octane alone isn't enough. You'll have to add some E85 or you'll have timing drops. Map 2 is about as much as you can go without adding E85 and running 93. If you're running 91, then map 1 is all you can do.

The dyno that was posted is not from a G20 B48/B46.

FWIW, when I used my stock map log in virtual dyno, my car never made more than 230-235whp. I think highest I ever got was 235. It was usually in the 225-230whp range.
I know it isn't a real dyno but yes.

Hey VipinLJ,

Thanks for all the responses! Since you have one I’m hoping you’ll help answer a few more questions.

1) what I really want is a bit more oomph to the acceleration, not top speed. Basically I want is to hit the throttle and feel the power knock me back and hopefully reduce turbo lag. Will the jb4 give me what I’m looking for?

2) how does it affect the different drive modes? How does it feel in comfort?

3) what are the key things to look out for in logs? I’ll probably only run map2 on 93 octane

I heard you also need a upgraded Downpipe to run map 2. Is this true?

Nope. Just good quality fuel.

So no point in getting a jb4 in cali? Or is flex fuel mixes with 91 viable?

You can run map 1 with the 91 octane, I posted the gains in a previous post.

if you mix 91 and E85, you can run more aggressive maps.

I would love to understand what a "clean log" means. Just to learn before installing a jb4 map 2 on my G21 2023 which I will receive in April 2023

I think that here in Spain your 93 octane is our RON98. I understand that the jb4 map2 will work fine...

By the way, do you not have the Touring (G21) available in the USA? I do not see any photos of the G21!

Clean logs means you don't have any drops in timing that are a result of too much boost without enough octane.

No touring in the US

+1

also no dip in fueling, and your actual boost is close to your target boost
