Whaat? I’ve never had to replace my brake pads on any of my leases (all 30K miles).

Do you use the adaptive cruise control a lot?

Doesn't sound right to me. Sensor not reading accurately or bug in idrive.
I'm sure with the car on a ramp it will be obviously very quickly how much has left
I'd take it to dealer when convieninet under warranty

Update, I definitely needed rear pads. There was no explanation of why but still very strange

Yup. I got my rear brake pads changed at around 13k miles. Though I didn't get a warning on the idrive. Took it in for service and key read said my pads were worn. Checked it and yup. Luckily I had some type of maintenance package that came with the car (obviously included in the MSRP) that I didn't know about but it included brake pad changes.

There is a bulletin about this. Free fix if your car's production date is before 2020.

Well damn. What happens if they've already changed the pad? I didn't know that there was a tsb involved. I'm hoping the pad they used was the new updated pad or whatever the fix is.

@VipinLJ, It shows in the link:
"CAUSE
Increased residual braking forces in the rear axle brake calipers caused by production-related deviations on the surface of the piston ring seal.
CORRECTION
Improved rear axle brake calipers"

No mention of caliper replacement in your service records? If not, I guess you could talk to your SA if the service was performed after the bulletin was posted (June 1st, 2020).

Nope. No mention of caliper replacement. Guess I'll be talking to the SA. I just hope they do something because I don't want it to wear prematurely again. The pads were changed in 2021.

I had to replace mine at 17,000 miles. Still way to soon. I challenged the dealer at who simply responded that anything above 15500 mi is acceptable wear!

Doubt it. I had to change mine at 28,000 km. Am currently at 35,000 km. Just completed a service. Rear pads are already at 8 mm. Well probably have to replace every 30k km at this rate. If this occurs again, won't ever buy a BMW again.

MyBMW App just alerted me of upcoming rear pad change in 1300 miles. Currently at 24k miles, visually checking the rear pads on the car shows it is low so I just ordered new pads and sensor to get this done in the next few weeks.

In previous generations, you could see the brake status. Now I am not seeing it. I guess it will come up when it's down to around 1500 miles? Any ideas on how I could look up the status?

You guys are triggering traction control too much if you need to replace the rear pads that soon. I track my car and have had to replace the front brakes after 15k miles but the rears are still fine.

My RWD 330i Sportline is asking for a rear brake pad change at ~26K km. Seems to be normal in India at least. Fronts seem to be holding on much better.

Here at least, BMW is hiking their spares rates big time quoting Ukraine and various other issues. Being quoted ~$330 for the change!

just discovered it's possible the park brake and hill hold and auto park brake - is the rear brake.

does this car have a separate park brake or the park brake uses (ie IS) the rear brake

is it FREE to have pads changed if under 15,500 miles and car production date prior to 2019?

my service advisor didn't say any of this.

He said it will cost 480 + tax

my car is just shy of 15k miles

As per the TSB, it is free. There's a good chance they don't know about the TSB. Show it to them.

I have Ultimate care plus on my BMW. It was free for me because of that. The service centre didn't know about the tsb till I showed it to them.
