Filter Cap Tool size?

What size is that filter cap? My 32mm and 30mm filter cap sockets are too big.

Just take your used oil to a local parts establishment (Autozone, O'Rielly, etc.) they have a tank in the back for the disposal of used oil.

Check with your garbage company, here Waste Management picks up my used oil in clean, labeled milk jugs. I just set it curbside next to my recycle bin on trash day.

To clarify, Chubbie, that's on your B58-equipped M340? I have the G42 B46/48 and I think they may be different since I think 1 5/16" is about 34mm.

Correct - I am using the 1 5/16" socket on my B58. The fit is a little loose but it works with no issues. I will be upgrading to the BMS billet oil filter cap the next oil change, which utilizes a 3/8" drive or a 32mm socket.

Bimmerworld shows the B48 oil filter cap size is 32mm the same as the B58 - see below link:

Yeah, I spoke to a few vendors, and the cap is definitely not 32mm...my 30mm is too big. I'll figure it out. I am wondering if the G Series (your link only shows the G Series M340) B48 is just a bit different. I have time, but will do an oil change by Summer, so...

Thanks again.

I got six 1L bottles of BMW Longlife LL17FE+ 0w20 for my first oil change (coming up soon) because that's what the user manual recommended. I know that other people are going to recommend 5W30 Liquimoly but I already bought the oil so I'm gonna use it. Might switch to the other one in the next oil change but I might just stick with what BMW tells me to put into my car while I still have my warranty.

When I had it done at the shop, they always used Liquimoly or Motul 5W-30.

Ever since I started doing it myself, I've been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30.

To each their own but I think the Pennzoil is the best so far in terms of oil life. After 4000kms it still runs smooth, efficient.. It's approaching the end of cycle as I usually do it at 5000-6000kms, but still feels good so far. The Motul or Liquimoly is definitely rougher at 4000kms and you can feel the efficiency is down.. Filling up more often, car sounds louder, etc.

Oil filter takes a 27mm socket. I did my first oil change last month @ 3000 miles. Used a FCP Euro filter kit (includes filter, o-ring, and oil pan crush washer) with Mobile-1 0W-20 oil. Oil drain plug is 17mm and the car holds 5.7qts of oil. Aside from the filter being on the top of the engine, it's pretty straight-forward.
