Top Safety Pick+ is only for cars with Executive Package. Cars without laser headlights gets a poorer rating.

It's unbelievable that BMW still cannot make a proper LED headlight on the 3 series.

Aren’t they high beams only?
It’s been years since I flicked my lights to high beams.

LED lights suck. Can't believe you need laser lights to have decent illumination when the halogens on my other car with fine.

Mine sucked or so I thought but then adjusted them up and they’re fantastic. Just as good as HID lights which I thought were great back in the day.
BMW adjusts them way too low from the factory

Yeah I think the LEDs are too low. When I use the high beams they are better and I've never been flashed by oncoming traffic so they are not blinded by the hi beams. They should be adjustable from I drive as I see them adjusting themselves when they turn on at night when I start up

For the record guys IIHS does NOT test the actual lasers only the LEDs despite what it says. I emailed them about the X5's laser lights and their response is below.

I don't know what you were asking and what she was referring to but their website clearly states that the 2019 X5 has been tested with laser headlights. Go to https://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/ve.../x5-4-door-suv and it clearly says under headlights trim level "...Icon Adaptive Headlights with Laser Light package."

But this has nothing to do with the G20.

They (IIHS) should properly adjust them before testing
Mine were so low I was crushed driving home from a dealer. I was basically outrunning the light on the highway. Came home and read all about it on F30 forums, grabbed a screwdriver and 5-6 turns later on each side they’re brilliant.

I'm sure they had them adjusted properly.

The LED issue is pretty much across the entire BMW lines.

Majority of buyers aren’t going to adjust them so if BMW isn’t going to adjust it right from the factory, then they deserve whatever score they get.

"The midsize luxury car is available with three headlight options that offer a range of performance. The optional curve-adaptive headlights that come with the Executive package earn a good rating in IIHS tests. This headlight option also features high-beam assist, a system that automatically switches between high beams and low beams, depending on the presence of other vehicles. The car's base headlights — static LED projectors — earn a poor rating, while the optional curve-adaptive lights sold with the Convenience package rate marginal."

Here we go again, the same goes for the 3 Series which I'll gladly confirm with IIHS. They only test the LEDs in the housing not the laser high beams which is what the email says. I didn't think it was hard to read and see this but now you know. if you want it more black and white email them for yourself.

Also the LEDs in the laser assembly are different than the normal full LED versions even with the laser high beams off. This has been beaten to death in the X5 forums so I'm posting it here to avoid the same thing here

The true beauty of BMW LED headlights is after you code in the anti-dazzle feature.

I don't get how a crash test can be influenced by a headlight type vs another type. I can understand that the car will be more visible and the driver will be able to see better, but when a crash occur, the type of light will make no difference for the safety of the driver or the passengers!
