Non RFT BMW approved tires
Hi Guys,
I will be picking my New M340 in a few days at the dealer, over here in Montreal, roads are not always "low profile friendly" With my previous 335 and soon to be replaced 340, i have had several issues with tires, (bumps on the sidewalls, ripped tires) - my wife has the same tire size but they are not RFT... and no issues. So this time around i ordered the car with non-RFT.. I personally don't like the idea of not having a spare but i figure it beats driving with bumps on sidewalls full time. Discovering that Costco sells tires with full "bump" warranty, i figured upon purchase i will swap out the original "non warranty" tire with these. In the past, BMW required us to have tires with the "*" on the side. but i can't find non-Runflat tires with the "*" More over dealer says if i buy the car with non-rft, i cannot bring it back with rft.. (i was going to get RTF since with a warranty its probably a safer bet) Any thoughts on this? (do BMW non RFT tires have a *)

Buy whatever tires you want. It doesn't matter at all.

I just placed an order for full set of MPS-4S ( non star) from Costco. They were chosen base on their outstanding warranty. Can't wait to remove the run-flats and get these installed in the coming weeks.

Hey there. Which dealer in Montreal? I’m picking mine up at BMW Laval, so far the service has been great and they agreed to swap wheels & tires for me as most dealers do so as long as you bring back tires on spec with tread you shouldn’t have an issue.

i'm picking it up in Laval as well. Its my Fourth from Laval.
Car comes base without RFT, In Theory the idea of RFT is great, in real life, they don't last more than a few weeks before a bump forms... (unless you drive only on perfects streets)

Its a lease, so if i return the car with tires that BMW doesn't approve they could back charge me for tires... if it were not a lease then i could do whatever i want!

I'm talking about you wanting to change the tires. Just keep the RFT that come with and put them back on when you go to return.

Did Costco make a fuss with replacing the RFTs with non-RFTs? Mine would not do it unless I showed them a spare tire. I had to buy tires elsewhere.

No , I just told the guy I needed the fronts since they still had ample thread left. No issues other than I had to wait outside due to Covid.
