You're going to get different opinions. I say go for it. Life is short. Enjoy it NOW. I bought the car for the handling, engine and driving engagement. All the other stuff is nice but most I could easily live without and still enjoy the car 100%. Do it!
p.s. 3-4 months on a new build is a crap shoot and probably optimistic |

My understanding is that laser lights can be added after, so I'd say go for it! There's a good chance the LED lights might meet your needs and if not then just buy the parts and do the upgrade yourself.
Here's a thread with more info around the pros and cons. https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1850418 Last edited by ElHeffe; 11-14-2021 at 09:52 AM.. |

Just do it!
I would just get it. I was going to order an M4 Competition Xdrive Convertible (In Tanz) but found one already built (Skyscraper Grey). It is on the boat now and does have a touch screen. If the car is available (at the dealer), then I bet you didn't get hit with the switch to non-capacitive screens.

If you have your heart set on laser lights and are super anal, then hold off since it's going to bother you every time you look at it. Adding them later is not financially reasonable (~$6k). But if you don't see a big difference from the standard LEDs, then I agree you should go for it. (3-4 months is extremely optimistic, considering you're talking about a special order color... You might not even get a 2022 build.)

Buy it now, place order for your exact spec at MSRP. Then sell M4 when your build is done at profit. Get what you want for less while having an M4 in the meantime.
These are crazy times. Nothing is rational. But if you don't care to do that, I say buy it if it's just the lights that are different. You can always retrofit if you care that much.

Wasn't there a post here saying the current models are done. The next orders are starting in January and may not be delivered until June 2023? I would look into that before passing on this car.

The laser lights in the American market aren't that much better from a functionality point of view. The main reason people get them is because they think they look cooler (which they do).
But the main issue is the risk you'd be taking by getting a car a few months from now. There's a good chance that more options will be removed from the car because of the shortages, and then you'll be kicking yourself for not getting the one at the dealership. That's why I'd just go ahead and get the one that's available now. You're rolling the dice if you wait to get one next year. |

Mine doesn't have them, and mid build I changed my mind and wanted them. I chose to buy the car without them rather than wait for a new build that has them optioned.
I'm definitely happy I took the car instead of waiting. Who knows how long it would have taken to get a different car built. Especially the way many builds are being delayed nowadays.

Nowadays you will have to wait awhile just to get a new car built and delivered. I personally wouldnt go without laser lights but each person will view them differently. It would just be a deal breaker for me but not for some.

You risk waiting an undetermined amount of time , maybe even a year for a car over basically the aesthetic look of the lights.
I originally did not spec laser lights. Added exec pack last minute and glad I did but I would be enjoying the car the same without them. To each their own, depends how bad you want/need the car and are willing to wait.

After researching about the adaptive led lights and all your comments, I think I need to jump on it before someone else beats me to the punch. Also I just saw the exclusion post that just popped up ... that just sealed the deal in my head.

I recommend getting buying this car. While it may not have laser lights, you run the risk of missing a lot of other electronic options if you wait for a later build.
Laser lights you are waiting for now may end up unavailable later anyhow |

Buy the car if it closely matches what you would buy anyway. USA laser lights are neutered & less powerful than the EU versions.
Back in 2020 I took the first off the lot BMW I ever bought without ordering. Was a Z4 M40i prefect match except for the roof. Turned out was the last one in the state & one of the few left in the country. Factory shut down due to the virus & guys were waiting 8/9 months for a car. Looked today & some of the equipment I have is not on the configurator.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g3...chip-shortage/ Wouldn’t be surprised to see MSRPs jump up quite a bit for 2023s as well. Haven’t seen a single complaint about the base headlights anywhere - it’s just that the lasers look “cooler”. |

Good decision. I have laser lights, but I wouldn't pass on a car that doesn't have them. They aren't that big of a deal.
