Quite simple, took my car to Mission Performance (Which I hear is no longer in CA) Alex took my DME out unlocked it and was back in the car within 5 minutes. Went home and flashed my tune of choice which you can do anything of your choice from there on out. You can adjust your burbles, remove your speed limiter, cold start delete, etc. This was almost two years ago. Note some early early batches of 2020 models were unlocked straight from factory which require no unlock. Also note tune may be wiped and relocked with a OTA update through the IDRIVE, which can be disabled (For reference I am on a December 2019 firmware.)

My build is May 2019 but I have no idea regarding the firmware/software/updates. Will need to learn how to do it.
Also, do you know if these changes may void my manuf warranty?

Btw, it looks like Mission Perf website still says Rancho C in CA.

It will 100% void your powertrain warranty, they could make it difficult on you for other items too. If you didn't turn off OTA updates and tell the dealer to not update then most likely you will need a bench unlock. If you've had the brake recall done then you'll 100% need a bench unlock. There's quite a few people in Southern CA that can do the unlock for you. I believe mission did in fact move and just haven't updated their website.

I have an extended BMW warranty which makes me think I should avoid the unlock/tune etc. Too bad...

I got my dme back from kies Motorsport in like 3 days. They are pretty fast, probably the best option.

Kies doesnt have the ability to unlock 21+ dme

I know you work with BTG and RSA but they announce the dates of your bench unlocks and when you'll be present only a week before and its very difficult for me to find time especially on friday/saturdays. I'd love to learn more about it if such a thing is possible because since you will be coming tomorrow and I will unfourtunately be missing that too, it will probably be months before you come again and chances are, I will miss it too.

At least getting the unlock done will let me find some time to go to them for remapping on my accord.

It´s a bench unlock so it wont be possible to connect to your car through the OBD port and let them do it remotely.
Your ECU needs to go to Helsinki.

Doing something remotely is still risky because you don´t know whats running on the remote machine. It´s not easy but one could try to understand the magic behind the unlock and that´s nothing FEMto is going to risk.

I don´t know what they can unlock, if the unlock is equal to FEMto or if they´re able to provide a remote start patch.

If you´re talking about Magic Motorsport, they´re from Italy.
They will provide the bench unlock to partners what means many shops will get access to their unlock.
The partner connects the ECU to their Flex box and can unlock it.

Same for me...
But FEMto has the USP of patching remote start in my ECU even though it´s not official available in my region.
Only downside, it´s no full unlock and some things need a custom ROM that can only be applied at FEMto.

Does it do a complete rollback, or just specific bits of the code? It doesn't make sense if I had the brake recall update done for a tune to reverse it.

Bench unlock does not change the software version you are on.
However, if you update your software after a bench unlock, you lose the tune and the unlock.

It's because BMW bought a "tool" for 06/20- cars which can be used in their garage as well, checked where the vulnerability is and eventually fixed it. This is another reason why we don't want to release our tech.

You can brand us as much as you like, it's your right. But you can’t take away the fact that our unlock is there, it works and people use it.

What is the likelihood of there being a femto branch in the USA?

I appreciate all your guys' hard work. I had no idea the unlock was out for so long. This is an actual unlock unlike mission impossible
