Taking a DME unlock dive

I have exhausted the same avenues, I am sure, as most of the members here in trying to unlock our DME's for more performance. Over the weekend, one of my Audi buds, suggested that I talk to a local performance shop that has tuned a variety of exotics as well as the German brands. I am going to take a chance this Thurs. or Friday and have them unlock my DME. They did not even hesitate when I asked them about my 2021. They just said "bring it over, we can do it". I don't want to specify the name of the shop for now but, if they get it done, THERE WILL ONE MORE OPTION FOR THIS FORUM!!

Orrrrr they don't know that 2021+ are bosch ecu's that can't be unlocked and just assumed they still use the same one as the 2016-2020 cars. But all the best!

So no one in the world besides two shops can do it, but your local shop(which doesn't necessarily focus in bmw) is convinced they got it figured out.

I am also a skeptic because of everything I have read. But, when I stopped by for a few minutes to talk to them, they were tuning a McLaren. I have personally been to another shop what tuned a McLaren about two years ago. The tuner was flown in from Montreal just for this car. Supposed to be in the top 3 tuners in North America. Learned a lot about tuning exotics and German cars from talking to him and watching him. Learned that Mclaren will sell you a key to unlock to qualified tuners. But, the catch was, if you don't get it right the first time, you have to buy another key to unlock and try again.

One thing in my favor is that I can watch the guy do it and I only pay if he does unlock it. I have my full Bootmod3 suite at the ready and they have agreed to help with this as well. They are a fully equipped shop, soooooooooo, if things go right, we will be able to load my car up and put it on their dyno.

And what happens if they mess up your ECU or the computer can tell they tried to and your warranty gets voided while still being locked? Why would you be the guinea pig on someone that has not done this before?

The money you're about to spend on repairing the vehicle and replacing the DME you could have gotten a G80..

I owned one of the first M4's out which was fully loaded and included the carbon fiber buckets. Could not stand the grille and the buckets were impractical for passengers. That grille is the giant wart on the supermodel. If I can't do an unlock within the next year, I will go back to an M5.

Well, took a long lunch and stopped by to talk to the shop techs. They seemed pretty confident and said they had done at least two other 21's. They bumped my appt. up to tomorrow and after the unlock, they are going to help me out with the BM3 install and if they have time they will dyno the car.

This is to good to be true if it actually works. what date is on your ecu?

I don't know the date on the DME but the car is a 2021.
