Anyone with G20 LCI (2022) 330e managed this yet?

The always open valve mod I've seen on countless videos and threads. I've followed all the instructions to the letter and I can here the sound change once the engine warms up (as if the valve is open) however when checking the right exhaust the valve is clearly still fully closed.

If I unplug the connection to the actuator it makes now difference. The valve seems to still open and close when it wants however I can't see any change to the valve on the right exhaust. Clearly something is opening and closing to change the sound but I can't see where. Has anyone managed this mod on a G20 LCI (2022) 330e yet?

Would be interested to know if the process is different?

Thanks in advance

The sound change you're hearing is probably the synthetic sound. There's others on here who have not been able to persuade the exhaust flap to open on the 330e

Is the synthetic sound not in the cabin? I mean I'm stood behind the car listening to the exhaust tone change.

Ahh it's okay done a bit more digging and looks like the flap will never ever open when stationary. No wonder ha! Gotta code it.

Or disconnect and turn the flap by hand.

Just out of interest, where'd you read that it won't open whilst stationary?

Just from other posts in other forums. It's only the hybrid that does this. Normal ICE versions open up after a few mins idle. I bought an OBD adapter and bimmerlink and I can open it when I want now. Might disconnect it completely might not but at least I have the option now via the app.

Also, I tried myself doing some fairly spirited driving then parked up and the flap was always closed when I stopped and checked. Left the engine running in xtra boost a good 10-15 mins and it never ever opens. What was odd though I noticed that the exhaust note would randomly get deeper and a bit louder on idle, but when I checked the flap was still closed. So not sure if there's another that opens further back in the exhaust system that causes this. But as I said before, just get an OBD link adapter and bimmerlink and you're sorted.

When you say this do you mean the following, leave the connector in and remove the metal spring circled? Then just tie the valve open with some wire???

On a 330e I think that's the best way. I have a 330i so it was quite straightforward to get the valve to open of its own accord and then I just unplugged it and it's stayed there ever since.

Yeah think that's probably the only way with the hybrid if you don't want to buy an OBD adapter.

To be fair though, the difference in sound is not night and day. Just a bit louder/deeper on idle. And I guess it remains open for other drive modes. But it's not mind blowing the difference. Just a bit nicer.

Soon as my 330e arrives this will be the first thing I do!! Then mudflaps.

I don’t want to touch it with an OBD as it’s a company vehicle.

Anything is better than having to buy a new back box. Also it’s the best way to have a car with twin exhausts not looking fake in winter!! 😆

Surely it’s like a 2 minute job and a much safer way of protecting all the plugs form water ingress?

I don't know about much safer as I bagged the male and female connectors but lying on my back underneath the car I wasn't sure if the spring clip would "ping" off somewhere if I undid one end and also if it would be fiddly to put back on. I guess you can do whichever you feel comfortable with. My plug has been off for two years from the day I got it new and I plugged it back in for the first service last week and it operated exactly as it should.

Mine is a company one. I haven't done any coding it just links to the bimmerlink app and there's a button to open the flap. No change to the ECU code is done really.

Just not keen messing around with them, any kinda change is now detectable. Even the “plug in” style remaps of which their manufacturers insist they are undetectable!!😂

That’s fair comment. I’ll let you know you made the right decision when I try it and it fires off into next doors garden. 👍🏻 Got a while to wait though cars not due till July… ☹️

Yeah obviously plug in remap boxes like racechip etc I'd go nowhere near as you immediately invalidate the warranty with them. Like I said though all I did with the OBD is plug it in and activate the opening of the valve. It's something the car does anyway. And I haven't changed any of the code or put it into diagnostic mode etc. If you are going in and physically tweaking code I'm sure then they might have something to say. But once I was done with my last car they took it back and just threw it in an auction. They didn't even charge me for the excess miles I had on it and I had a small bump in the back which they didn't even find lol guy just said "no damage - sign here!"

Unless you are changing the parameters of the engine and boost pressures etc that would flag up or could worst case damage the engine, then they won't really care.

Let me know how you do yours anyway when you get your car! It is a very easy tweak to do and does make a little difference for the better.
