Pretty cool to have a World Class manufacturing facility 1.5hrs from me, not to mention the Performance Center =)

300K! wow. And ah yes the performance center...I want to take a trip there and really learn how to drive!

should've taken a lesson from Apple...

The intellectual property stolen while doing business will be astronomical.

Copy cat parts, designs, mods, "OEM" will never mean the same thing when buying replacement anything online.

Hope it's worth it...

Money aside these companies just need to stop selling in china for a couple of months. It's just a way for china to legally get companies entangled in their system.

I avoid Made In China like the plague, but...

what about Made In South Africa?

BMW has been exporting quality built cars from its SA plant for years, in fact it was at one time their highest rated plant for quality.
From a manufacturing perspective I think BMW would build a quality product wherever they decided to open a plant, including China!

However even though the car may be sound, it would prove to be quite a challenge to overcome that negative image of Made In China. In fact I think it could metastasize and affect the core brand of BMW.

These cars will never be sold outside of Asia. They may say they are considering it, but there is no way they're stupid enough to do that to a brand they've been building for so many decades.

These cars will be sold mainly in China, I don't think they can sell too many cars in other countries...
On the other hand, to ignore Chinese market these days would be a huge mistake

I think made in America is not a bad thing, nor is made in South Africa, because they don't come with a preconceived idea of cheap low quality goods. Made in China however, does. People automatically think cheap garbage even if it might be a well build product like I presume these cars will be. That will be the hardest part to overcome. I know I already have a negative outlook on it.

so many people here are OVER reacting!!! you guys are being spoiled so much for being American. that Chinese company can make cars affordable for people to buy cars. BMW manufactured in China also makes buyers pay less for those models.
let say you want to buy a E92 M3 in China. it costs about $180K DOLLARS for a fully loaded one. sounds crazy? if a M3 costs that much in the US, some people will start crying and bitching about US regulations and policies.
We take everything for granted nowadays....unbelievable!

China is the largest market for BMW (yes, BMW sold more cars in China than in the US since 2009) , and they have been making BMW's in China for years. Frankly I don't think this is a wrong move because this venture is made to mainly serve the Chinese market, this business model have been successful pioneered by VW and Toyota, and to a smaller scale, Ford. We don't have to buy these cars but that venture is still going to make boat load of cash for them.

Apple products / iphones are made in china... And in quality I would say they are the best vs their competition.

With so much technology automation going on in manufacturing, and the QA controls, the labor doesn't impact outcomes as much.

I bet they'll be just as good or BMW will not release them for global distribution
