There’s no such car as the “M3 Base”. There is M3, M3 Competition, and M3 Competition with M xDrive. Also, while “performance stats” encompass more than just 0-60 times, in the real world, M3 is 3.5 seconds 0-60, and M340i is 3.8

1) It’s a $13k delta between the M440i x drive and the M4 base. Compare apples to apples.
2) M has merino leather and some other quality pieces like carbon roof, better brakes, etc. You can also option much more - bucket seats, CCB, etc.
3) X drive improves 0-60 for traction reasons
4) Manual transmissions are always slower than automatics. So the fact it’s 0.1s faster to 60 even without x drive and a manual shows the power delta.

The M4 base is for the individual who wants a manual transmission. The comp and comp x are much faster, of course.

And here’s an interesting little factoid: my comp x was $87k. My base M was $98k. So affordability is irrelevant to the moniker.

Weight is also a factor.
And the B58 is much slower after 60 mph than the S58.
That’s a lot of useful info. Thanks for actually having a thought out response to my original question.

AWD will make a huge difference in 0-60 times and a manual will always be slower than a modern automatic, but 0-60 is not the only metric that matters. If that’s all you want, a Tesla is probably your best choice.

I might be the only one but I actually prefer the black buttons

I feel like the silver ones stand out too much with the rest of interior

I agree with you. These look great in our X7 with the atlas grey/white. But unless you get a lighter interior like Silverstone or white these may look odd. I suppose Fiona would work too.

Yes - I got rid of my galvanic controls for this reason.

Not sure if someone mentioned this already I didnt see it when reading through. But is there a reason why the alcantara wheel can’t be optioned with some of the driving assistance features in the config?

My sales told me it’s because the alcantara is too soft, the sensors for driving assistance cannot install

Probably an error. In the ordering guide there are plenty of restrictions on specific combinations of options. But none of them says "70A cannot be ordered with ZDY" or vice versa.

Not sure if this is a coincidence, but the person who posted they were stuck in QA said their Alcantara Steering Wheel got removed from their build with DAPP optioned. Don't know if they confirmed it was because of DAPP though.

Checked in with the dealer yesterday. Galvanic controls show up in special notes. CA indicated that it was approved with a cost of around $100. Only way to be certain is to wait for it to arrive

Wouldn't believe much of what you see on the configurator, BMW marketing/website team is notoriously inaccurate.

Sorry if this has been asked/answered already but does anyone know when the M3 will get the same updates as the M4?

Doing the loosest of loose comparisons. The Alpina B3 (340i), which has been modified to 462hp and 516tq, so, a modified M340, versus the stock M4 xDrive bests the B3 by over 25 seconds on the ring. Both cars driven by the same driver. Christian Gebhardt.

When you're bench racing these cars, the numbers may look "closer" but, they are in fact not even in the same ball park. I've gotten a draggy timed, 3.17 0-60 in my M4 xDrive, and 11.21 @123.4 qtr. On the street. The standard M340 is a 12.3 @ 115.

The 3rd video is just for shits and giggles, where you can see just how much of a difference the cars are. They actually pull an 11.0 @ 125 in the M4, and get under 3.0 0-60.
