Lane keeping assistance - on or off?

Had my first experience of the LKA "going rogue" this weekend. We have mainly concrete roads around here (plus a lot of glare at times), so it's certainly understandable that the system would get confused when the worn down lane markers don't match the seams in the concrete or the lines of tar on the road.

I'm honestly not sure how far the car actually moved toward/into the other lane, but the experience was certainly alarming.

I don't want to start another flame war, but I am interested in how many people have LKA turned on/off.

I almost killed a biker when I first bought my ‘22 X3MC when I tried to go around the biker and the wheel jerked back and nearly hit him. It’s been off on all my cars since 2021. Way too aggressive.

Whilst not a m3/4 driver I have had this in my 2017 g30 540 and 2023 m550

I use it a lot on motorways and in traffic jams
The previous version was ok but could be better and it’s faults were maintaining a bias to the left of the lane and often but not always taking the exit lane off a motorway
The newest version (idrive 7) was improved and those faults have gone and have found it pretty much close to perfect really. Where it doesn’t work are simply where road markings are very feint or missing. It seems to be able to hang onto a lane even if there is only one side.

If you are finding that it cannot latch on to lanes at all or is erratic, an issue that popped up on the g30 forum was to completely reset the car by disconnecting the. Artery for a short while
After that it was back to its factory behaviour
Odd but it worked for the person concerned
Just mentioning in. Aad that’s your scenario

Just when it starts to annoy me it’s on or off. I’m at the point where I don’t mind too much as long as I feel safe. Like some vehicles come with driver assistance so if I’m in for a long drive I touch the wheel ever few seconds for piece of mind.

Lane Departure Warning absolutely on.

Steering Assist off, though.

Yeah, that's why I have. So you get the annoying vibrate but no steering adjustment.

Yup, I meant the same. It’s the steering intervention I won’t use.

This is how I have mine too, the vibration seems to be hit or miss though.
