Picked up my 330i Msport yesterday

Soooo... i picked it up.

330i Msport, Portimao blue, and lot of options, including leather dash.

Of course car is awesome, I need some time to absorb everything, because it's two classes above my previous F30 318d.

Black leather with white stitching (didn't like blue), 4KA wood trim open pored (turned out excellent!), max size screens, leather dash (looks fantastic), adaptive suspension, Msport LSD...

It's very nice and fast machine, but it's not a rocket. I mean, although i had 318d which was slow as hell, and this is much faster and punchier, there is no "wild" attributes that I can give to this car. I think it's the minimum power any BMW should have.

However, I think that, at least in Europe, it's perfect mix of daily driver, family car and a machine that owner, when in spirited mood, can enjoy. I understand why you guys in USA want M340i or M3. I drove F80 (rented in Munich for one day) and it's a different beast. But this is very well made car, and I think we'll all enjoy it a lot in the next 5 years. After all, it's not only about pure power...

There is one thing I'm really astonished with, though. Laser lights. I didn't know how to turn them on, and I drove last night, and thought "these lights are fantastic, but 600m my ass, they were lying, but awesome lights anyway". And then, one hour later, i realized how to turn them on.

OMG.

It was so shocking, I can't wait that it gets dark outside again. I'm not sure that any video or photo can describe how awesome these lights are on open road, when there are no city lights around. I also don't know are they the same in the USA like here in Europe (partial on-off when cars come towards you etc). But this is by far the feature I'm most impressed with on any car I ever had. I have never experienced night drive like this and I recomend it to everyone who drives at night, whatever the price, take that option.

Harman Kardon sound is one class above F30 H/K, at least. Especially shines because the cabin is so much quieter.

Vernasca is great, seats are great.

Steering is awkward, needs some time to getting used to (VSS) but much better than F30.

All being said, very happy with my purchase. If there are any questions - I'll be happy to answer.

Update:

Sorry guys, last few days have been busy, I'll try to do some pics tomorrow, it's dark outside now...

Ride is actually pretty decent, especially considering RFT tyres. However, i still have Michelin PS4 (non-RFT) on another set of wheels and I might put them on the car, just to see and feel the difference.

Wood trim is great, I hate when all cars have the same aluminum or piano black trims. In reality it's nice, feels good on touch.

About leather dash - yeah, it really looks great, bottom part is also leather, but the doors are no different than standard doors you get with leather interior. That's a bit of dissapointment, especially because the configurator shows the doors with upper part different.

It's a really, really solid car, I would never expect a 3-series to be like this. I would say it's maybe too solid - if someone would give me car like this few years ago and said "here, this is the new 5 series", I would say "oh, nice".

Looking good. Enjoy the fun kms ahead!

What tires did it come with?

I'm also curious whether there's any detailed documentation on the LSD, run-in wise or just in general. I'm guessing sort of the same would apply as for previous M3 LSDs available on the net, but would be interesting to see.

Congratulations!

This must be first delivery in Croatia!

The car looks great in Portimao Blue with M sport pack.

Glad to hear lasers are proving to be top choice. If you can take a photo of long beam light output, that would be great.

Also, am I the only one thinking that this M sport steering wheel is way too thick? (And I have very large hands)

Congrats, car looks amazing, we have to wait until late March even for a test drive on this side of the pond!

Does the open pore look like it would be hard wearing? It looks amazing in the pics, had the aluminium trims in all of my cars which have been great for wear, but the open pore looks so much better

I was hoping not to spec the lasers lights, they are 1500 here

Ouch, in the UK the adaptive LED is the base light, maybe that’s why the upgrade is cheaper

So, to answer...

Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ZP, runflat...18" staggered (standard with Msport)... I was sure I'll remove RFT tyres as soon as I get the car, but now I'm having second thoughts, they are very, very good.

Haven't found anything detailed on LSD, however the book is thick...

Steering wheel is not too thick for sure, I think it's perfect, F30 was too thin for my taste.

Open pore wood - I can't get the feel about wearing. It looks solid, but I don't know, have the car less than 24 hours. It was really a gamble because I couldn't get a decent picture of it anywhere, and small example they had in the dealership doesn't look at all like the trim itself. But like you can see on the photo, it looks calm and elegant, and goes very well with leather dash. At night also, with ambient lightning, it just blends in. Very nice place to be, this new cabin.

Laser lights are expensive, yes. Very, very tough to swallow, but I wanted it because I care a lot about night visibility. They are fantastic, though.

There are few things I think should be better. Bottom part of the dash, where driver usually puts his right knee, is very hard on touch. Not cheap (it's nice actually), but hard... Leather dash doesn't get you upper parts of door in leather, but in configurator it looks like it does. IDrive buttons on the centre island are difficult to find in the dark, it would be better if they would stick 1-2mm above.

Also, car is big, huge, I didn't have that much of "big car" feeling in F30. If you want to throw it around, I would think twice.

Congrats! I like the blue. I agree with the feeling of it being a 'big car'. Test drove one and felt huge. Incredible interior.

Would you happen to know the tire sizes by some chance?

For the 18" staggered setup like OP also has:

Front: 7,5J x 18, 225/45 R18
Rear: 8,5J x 18, 255/40 R18

For the 19" staggered setup:

Front: 8J x 19, 225/40 R19
Rear: 8,5J x 19, 255/35 R19

Congratulations! Looks sharp! I'm very interested in your opinion on the ride quality on the highway with adaptive suspension. Is it harsh on bad roads?
