Sadly, yeah. Take a look at this BMWBlog article: https://www.bmwblog.com/2015/02/28/the-hofmeister-kink/

It's supposed to be forward-bending.

Can't stand this. Sacrificed greenhouse space and a more timeless look for a Camaro-style pointless bubble over the rear arch that results in an swath of sheet metal.

I am convinced anyone that thinks the G22 looks better needs to see an eye doctor ASAP. Not one thing about it ( besides interior maybe) looks even remotely appealing. SMH, BMW has gone to shit now.

The new G 4 series is a total dumpster fire when compared to an F series. What were they thinking?

Designer Dukec says, ‘we did so many things differently with this car: there’s no horizontal shaven line, no classic Hofmeister kink.....we wanted a very special grille linked to our heritage.’ When the car isn’t awkward, it’s generic. Guess it had a hard act to follow. F32/ F82 win hands down.

I don't understand the "dated" and "boring" argument. Cars become classics if they look good, period. There are plenty of older BMWs that still look amazing today yet some regard them as "dated" and "boring" because of their model year. If it looks good now, it'll always look good. If it looks awkward now, it'll probably always look awkward. Time and design are irrelevant when it comes to executing an aesthetically appealing look. To me the only automotive designs that end up looking "dated" and "boring" are the designs that are bad from the start. The F series 4er will be regarded as the original 4er, the classic. And this debut G series 4er will be regarded as the risky attempt gone wrong (in my opinion). Hopefully it gets an LCI in a couple years that totally redeems and fixes everything that's gone wrong.

Lol. Good designs get copied in many forms. Some better than others

Point is, if it’s good enough for AM and Fezza’s latest...

May be I am convinced that you should not care so much about what other people happen to like and willing to spend their hard earned money on.

Perhaps while I visit the eye doctor you should consider making an appointment with a therapist?

That may be true but the fact remains that the quality and reliability of those forum darlings from the E-Chassis era is appalling to say the least. And for the rest of humanity out in the real world they are just old and dated BMWs.

No reason for the bland side profile. The 8-Series have most of these styling changes and still look better and modern than the old 6-Series. But somehow this was styled to be un-BMW.

This looks to me like a styling made for the Chinese market with the hope that it sells elsewhere.
It's called change bud. You either embrace it or leave it and move on.

Glad to see BMW finally moving away from the 1990s.

I personally like the new look and may consider getting it once I see in person and drive. I have owned 13 BMW'S and currently own 4 right now. First one was a 98 528I, several 3 series, a couple of x5 and multiple 7 series. I like change and am willing to embrace new designs and technology. I also like the fact so many people are in an uproar over the design, it makes it more intriguing to purchase. BMW has done its job.

Yeah absolutely. It's gotta look aesthetically pleasing while also having a memorable drive-ability (and reliability) factor to truly stay relevant over time. But if something brand new doesn't end up matching that criteria, it'll be considered "dated" very quickly.

Those designs actually flow rather than trying to mash previous and current gen design together. Looks wise they are on another planet, but good on ya for comparing your 4 series to a Ferrari.

Take the Aston, look at how the bodywork between the wheel arch and the window is minimal by comparison and flows with the overall look. There's just too much metal on the 4. It's like they looked at that and side "let's steal it" and changed nothing else. It even makes the 19" wheels look tiny.

My overall impression is that Dukec is interested in neither the actual heritage nor the people (enthusiasts) but rather solely focused on making a name for himself. His sociopathy is well described in his ability to shrug and ignore all criticism- a quality well-known in Chris Bangle.... Actually, it is my belief that Dukec will go the way of Bangle and resign in disgrace.

The F32 isn't a bad looking car but there's a lot of creases going on and I like the clean and tidy side profile of the G22 better as it looks more graceful and will age better. I also think the pony car rear styling lends to a more muscular rear profile. I know putting the kink upside down breaks tradition but IMO it looks better on this car and I'm glad that styling won out over tradition here. Once people get over the front grill they will grow to love the styling of this car.

Based on his interview that I read it seems that he doesn't care about any BMW heritage. He's in charge, he's going to change everything and we will be happy with it.
