12v cigarette lighter/power source

Tried plugging in my Beltronics 360 radar detector into the 12V adapter in my 2021 M440 and won't work. Works in every other vehicle. Leaves the dealership scratching their head not sure why.

I suspect the hole isn't deep enough but not 100% sure. Anyone here have or had the same issue? I need to get my radar working --- I'm old(er) but still have a lead foot and this car will get me some tickets LOL.

HELP!

Waze is nice in the interim. But yes you probably aren't making contact properly. Have you tried the 12V in the trunk to troubleshoot?

Just hard wire it. I have it have my Uniden R3 connected to my mirror and I have no issues. Also nice not having a visible wire running from the windshield down.

I thought about that but have multiple vehicles so would prefer to not hardwire since I will take this out and use elsewhere.

Oh crap, no. I didn't realize there was a 12v there. I tried in other vehicles and it works just fine though so I've verified the radar and the actual cord works fine.

The front 12v port is shaped a bit differently as it is made for an actual lighter. Many phone chargers, radar, dashcams, etc do not make contact. You can try shaving down the charger plug as shown on this thread. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1557458&page=2

This. I had the same problem with a dash cam that took power from the lighter port. Could not get it to work, had to go another route.

Try the "lighter" socket at the rear of the console if your vehicle has one at that location. It is different I use it with a device that does not fit in the front socket. You can get an extension cheap. Good Luck!

I had the same thing with my cell charger. The size is different. You can plug into rear charger and it will work.

Depending on your detector, the power cable/adapter for Valentine 1 detectors works for some reason, and I use one with my Escort Max 360. Alternatively, you can buy a long, straight power cable from Amazon and run it from the power receptacle in the back seat behind the center console.

I am having the exact same issue on my '21 m440i xdrive. that is not working... this seems very odd its not working. I have an Escort redline 360c

When I put a meter in the adapter I am not getting any power on my fluke meter.

If you are not reading any voltage in the socket - time for a trip to the dealer. Good luck with the RL360c I have been running it since launch. Mine is hanging on a Blendmount with a mirror tap.

It's the only workaround I had at the time to get the radar working. I find myself speeding too much and need insurance LOL.

I’m having issues getting my Valentine 1 gen 1 to work in my 2023 M340i. I know the cigarette socket works because it powers on with the BMW Dual USB Charger but nothing else. Seems like this is a know issue as many others are experiencing the same.

For my V1 I use the SAVVY (https://www.valentine1.com/v1-detectors/savvy/) which used the ODBC port (I also use the remote display)

Guys and gals it doesn’t get any better. I have an Escort Max 360 and no problems with the 2020 M4 but I got my 2025 M4 and it doesn’t work.

What ended up working

Any ideas of a better solution? I could always ask the dealership when I go back at 1200 miles.
