Another no sense battle. Two cars from two different leagues. Not the same level, not the same price or the same power/torque/weight etc… whats the point? High end RS5 is faster than M440? While there is a big gap of M4 RWD/M4 CP/ M4 CP Xdrive… actually M440 must be raced against S5….

Are you saying the drag race was so close?

LOL! I got totally confused by the cars looking pretty much the same (and skipping all the bla bla). Thanks for pointing it out!

I was referring to an M3. Personally I am totally fine with the looks of the M3.
Between the two cars, M3 does everything better compared to RS. It's faster, it handles better, stops better, etc. Obviously different strokes for different folks, but technically speaking RS5 loses to M3 in every category and costs the same. Quote:

I think that was the whole point of the test to show how a lower class BMW is close to higher level Audi.

Not sure the CT5 V is in this category. Cadillac does that weird thing where they slot themselves in between categories. The CT4 is more than an M2 but less than an M3, and the CT5 is more than an M3 and less than an M5. It's hard comparing with Cadillac (although that's exactly what I'll be doing when shopping for my next car )

I know it's not totally apples to apples... but when I priced out a G80 vs. the CT5VBW the Caddy was still a bit more with options ($80k for the G80 vs. $94k for the CT5). Options were similar - 6MT, full leather, parking assistance, upgraded wheels. The G80 actually has an individual color ($1,950 Aventurin) vs. just a $625 color option on the CT5. Even if i jump into the G80 comp, with similar options there's still an $8k difference, but then if you jump into the auto CT5V that difference goes back up to similar $12k-$15k. I know you can option a G80 out to over $90k, but you'd be checking pretty much every box including the $8k CCB brakes. I haven't yet done a ton of research but I think it'll be hard for me to justify a CT5V BW. If anything I might be looking at a CT4 BW as I think that's a closer comparison to the non comp G80.

I think I'll be making the plunge with 6mt and RWD. I'm hoping a good set of winter tires will serve me well. But I'm sure you guys have more brutal winters up there. It snows quite a bit in Chicago but you really truly only need to worry about driving on a bed of snow a few times a year, and even then they do a pretty good job of clearing the roads by next day.

Sample of times from a quick Google search.
11.6 for the M4 xDrive 11.8 for the RS5 12.0 for the M4 12.3 for the M440i It's funny seeing the comments saying how the M440i is so close in performance to the RS5 and therefore implying the RS5 is somehow inferior or can't compete with the BMW M cars. You could also say how the M440i is so close in performance to the M version as well. What does that say about the M car. Is it worth the extra cash to pay to get fractions of a second faster in the 1/4 mile. Now all these times quoted here are pulled from various sources like car and driver, etc. We all know cars can pull very different times under various different conditions. The test in the video is probably one of the most unscientific test done if you can even say any of the tests done by others is scientific. At this level of performance and vehicle, stepping up from an M sport to an M car or an S5 to an RS5 is going to bring incremental levels of performance gains in a straight line race. The real gains are in overall performance around a track. Having both owned Audis and BMWs I will say they are both very different cars in many aspects especially driving styles and each appealing to different types of drivers and buyers. I for one would take the RS5 over the M4 xDrive on pure style alone, but also know that I would enjoy driving the RS5 more. |

Specifically looking at your M4 xdrive timing of 11.6s - C&D achieved that time with an X3M, so it's a bit hard to believe, if you were using consistent sources, that they'd achieve the same time with an M4 xdrive. To that regard, there's quite a significant ~1 second difference between an M4 xdrive and an M440i xdrive. Just pointing that out. I agree that straight line acceleration no longer really matters, and these drag races are nothing more than easy entertainment. At the end of the day it's all about fun to drive and how you define that.

I don't see this being a reasonable comparison - aka: not apples to apples.
The price difference is too significant for these to be considered competitive cars, in my opinion. The Audi is nearly 30% more expensive in a base model (no options) comparison. A half second may seem like a fair amount, but its only about 4%. So bang for the buck is easy math. If this were a price is no object comparison, then fine but I think it would add a lot of other cars to the mix and both would be well off the lead. |

I will take the BMW and buy a Ducati to put beside it in the garage...and still have enough to go on a vacation and take my better half to her birthday dinner. As previous poster said, not apples to apples. And ultimately if you want straight line speed for the same money, a 2018 Corvette Grand Sport would eat both these cars for lunch for ballpark same money. I didn't buy my M340 for drag racing. Pretty sure most people who buy these cars don't purchase them to take to the Friday night at the strip...

its really disappointing that none of you noticed that Matt was obviously cheating to not loose against RS5. What a shame that you are so spoiled.
RS5 is better car than M440, however it never should have RS badge but S only. Audi got lost and its RS division is nothing it used to be. The only "RS" cars that truly can stand to RS badge is RS3 and R8. |

High praise for the S5. Drive both (M340i and RS5) and you will see the real difference.
