G20 Roof box/bar recommendations
Hi folks,
I'm looking for some recommendations for roof bars and boxes for the G20 please. It will see limited use for family holidays rather than being regularly hoiked onto the car so I'm not looking to spend the earth on it. I've never really needed one before so have no prior experience to draw on, but with the family growing I suspect we will bust the boot space this year and to avoid wifely fury I had better get ahead of the situation! Ironically it was her who talked me out of the touring... Any advice would be appreciated. |

I've always rated the Thule bars myself, pretty indestructible, ability to key match and feet kits to fit anything if you swap cars. You could always look at cheaper ones that are less aerodynamic/robust if you only use them once in a blue moon.
I'm sometimes lazy and keep them on for weeks at a time and the more pricey bars don't make any wind noise below 70 MPH (Edge wingbars) You can generally use any box on any bars, most have claw like attachments. Depends how much you want to spend, Kamei and Thule mostly top out the reviews. More expensive boxes tend to be more aerodynamic and rigid cutting down noise and fuel costs. |

OEM bars from posh car brands are usually just rebadged Thules.

Thule wingbar edge and Thule dynamic 800 roof box.
Very quiet, minimal increase in fuel consumption, and doesn't look ridiculous on top of the car. Haven't got a picture on the m340 but I have a pic of it on my previous x3:

Buy used, I bought my Thule wing bars for £45, and then it was £40 for a foot pack. I paid 60 for a Thule roof box. Get one you can open from both sides they are much easier to fit.
Facebook marketplace is for sourcing stuff. |

I kept the roof bars from my 65 plate X5 and just shortened the bar a bit and they fit my 69 plate G21. The roof rails on both vehicles were identical. I bought the roof bars online and they have been excellent.
I bought my roof box on eBay and got a bargain at £25ish iirc. It is wide and deep and takes a fair bit of kit. Personally I would go as big as you can and not worry too much about aerodynamics if only using it occasionally. |
