I believe the first month is free, and then you pay for it. Not sure what the purpose is in all honesty, unless it's somehow better in some countries that may have bad 4/5g capabilities through mobile

If you want to use Andriod Auto or Carplay you must use also WiFi.
(I don't, so I only connect Bluetooth. I can still use Google Assistant by long press on the talk button.)

i connected to BMW wifi just now and it didn't give me anything extra even though it says i have access to apps from my phone.

i think it's just there for android auto and and hotspot if you pay some money or something

i just disconnected wifi and never plan to reconnect manually (other than if it connects automatically with android auto)

CarPlay works via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. At least in my car (no hotspot), the Wi-Fi connection doesn't provide internet access. The phone knows it's necessary for CarPlay.

The WiFi connection is a Local Area Network (LAN) connection, not an Internet connection, unless that you pay for the subscription.

Android Auto uses both bluetooth and WiFi, the former for signaling, calls and so on, and the other for data transfer.

Thanks for explaining that Eddie, I was wondering what the difference was between the two
