M340i or 440i Gran Coupe - which is the better looking car?
Still not sure if I should buy a one year old 440i Gran Coupe or wait a year or so for a used M340i. I think the GC looks a more handsome car compared to the M340i (with that weird grill) but maybe the newer car will look less dated in a few years time. I know performance wise the M340i is superior but I'm not sure about those looks!
Any thoughts people? Last edited by POLYPOD; 10-11-2019 at 02:35 PM.. Reason: spelling |

For me the interior is what does it in favor of the M340i. I was at one point considering the 440i GC, but just felt like that previous gen bmw interior wasn't the nicest. The second I sat in the M340i it was a huge leap in interior quality.
In terms of looks, I do think the 440i looks a little sleeker... but again the M340i just looks a bit more modern. Plus you can always modify that grill if it's not to your liking. |

IMO, the 440i GC looks 10x better in terms of styling, but like you said the interior, tech & performance of the M340i beats it no doubt.

Dilemma I've been wondering too. In some ways the M340i looks like a evolution of the 4 series by how sleek the rear is. But visually the 440i looks better with the exception of the baby exhaust pipes that comes on them. Tech and creature comforts definitely goes towards the M340i. 440i does have better interior colors though.

It’s subjective, of course. But I do think the the 440i is a better looking exterior. The interior is not as nice as the M340i, with the exception of the latter’s stupidly positioned Park button. The thing is, the M340i is miles better to drive, so that’s what I ended up ordering.

Basically, you only go with the M340 right now if it is the only car you want (and you really like conjoined grills and digital gauge clusters) |

I was on the same boat. really like the looks and functionality of the 4GC, because of the hatch back mostly. But after test driving both, let me tell you, the G20 is a car that is def worth the money. Interior is very nice and feels solid and looks a bit more modern. The GCs interior definitely feels a bit cheaper, but if you find a good deal on one the I'd say it's still worth it.

I say the M340i, but I've never been a fan of any of the GC's. I've tried to like them, but I just can't get into the body style(s).

4 door based 2 door cars, to me doesn't make sense, not a fan as well.
Me personally, I would either go conventional 2 door coupe(2 series or 4 series) or 4 door sedan/touring or SAV/SUV. Secondly, the rear passengers' head and neck in the rear seat get shafted. The 'C' pillar is too close to head, the rear passenger roof does not allow neck space for rear passengers and finally old interior styling. I personally feel more 'closed in' sitting in the back seat in the 4GC vs regular sedan and touring that gives more 'roomy and open' feeling. Since you are in UK, you guys have the Touring m340i, still looks classy and handsome. Last edited by WXdrivefun; 10-14-2019 at 12:26 PM.. Reason: more detail |

Practical <<< >>> Stylish
330i Sedan <<< 430i Gran Coupe >>> 430i Coupe If the manufacturing economies of scale allow a more diverse product line, which might meet the needs of more buyers, why wouldn't a company offer more choice? |

Went from a 2016 M235 to a 2020 M340 and I am absolutely in love with how it looks. M235 was a beauty too, but I am really loving this M340. Interior would be the determining factor for me on the 4 GC vs G20 debate though. I personally like the look of the G20 a lot more than the 4 series, and the interior pushes it above for me. Cant go wrong either way, but Id go G20.
I know I am in the minority here, but I also really like the new grille and the all digital dash. |

Well, I currently drive a 4 series GC and just put a deposit down on a new M340I and I still think the 4GC looks better. The M340I is just holding me off until the new generation 4's come out.

Yeah I actaully had this debate myself. I love how the 4GC looks. Its nice and low and wide, looks a like a proper sports sedan/coupe. Adding to that is the fact that you get a very usable lift back! It's got the looks and the usability, which is what I was looking for.
But, I also cross shopped with the g20. Basic sedan shape, not the most eye catching design but it is a handsome car nonetheless. The biggest difference by far is the interior. Man, the F36's interior is OK, its good but its still that plastic everywhere and well its definitely showing a bit of age with these new designs coming out. The g20s interior is lightyears ahead in contruction and material use, to me that justifies the increased price. The 4GC would be my choice if it had the G20s interior no doubt about it. But since it does not, I went with a G20. Thats my 2 cents, the interior is what you spent most of the time in, so to me it was worth it. |

Hands down, the 4GC is a better looking car externally than the M340i, particularly from the front. The M340i's grille and bumper is overly fussy and a bit of a mess, tbh, particularly with the cerium stuff.
That said, I may well buy an M340i xDrive Touring later next year when the discounts kick in

I prefer the G20 now it’s come out, the F30 and the 4 series are already looking a bit dated in comparison.
The 4 series is a fine looking car but the Gran Coupe never really worked for me at the back and l don’t think the design is as elegant or successful as the A5 sportback. I think BMW struggle design wise when it comes to sport backs, witness the ungainly proportions of the 3 and 5 series GT’s and also the 6 series GT. Having said that if BMW manage to make the new 4 series Gran Coupe look anything like a junior 8 series Gran Coupe I’ll be down at the dealer handing over my money. |
