Super specific question... How do they select which key fob?
I am wondering which type of key fob I will be getting with my car that is coming in March. My previous two 3ers had the sport trim and luxury trim; the key fobs had metal inserts, satiny silver for the luxury model and a dark red for the sport model. These are shaped kind of like arches over the buttons on the key fob. The key fob is mostly plastic and is a symmetrical shape. I believe that at least for 5's, 7's, X5's, X7's, etc., that the key fob that is not symmetrical, substantially weightier, and has a lot more metal in it. It feels like a much better quality product. These fobs have inserts in the right side of them that are typically black but are replaced with one with the words "BMW Individual" in them for those who select BMW Individual options, or that have the 3 M colors on them for M vehicles.
I have a 2021 M340i on order coming in. The paint is a BMW Individual color. Does anyone know if the key fob will be the cheaper one or the weightier one? If it is the weightier/asymmetric version, which side block will be in it - the BMW Individual one or the M one? Super specific, I know, but for some reason I am curious as to how BMW decides this stuff. Side story - my current 340i's cheaper fob ended up taking a ride in my washing machine in my pants pocket. Interestingly, it survived the wet trip intact and both the wireless transmitter for keyless entry/start and the remote lock/unlock/trunk/alarm buttons still worked afterwards. Nice craftsmanship!

The M340i fob is the one with the M stripes on the side. Same as the other G chassis cars (the older F chassis ones had the light key fob which has been discontinued). Not sure if you'll get the individual lettering on the side though.

Frankly, I would much RATHER have the M stripes on the side than the BMW Individual lettering... I shall see what key comes with the car and let everyone know here.
