18 vs 19 inch wheels

Hi forum. My 2020 M340i xdrive has 18 inch wheels. What, if any benefit comes from upgrading to 19 inch wheels? Thanks!

They look better. That's pretty much it.

Go for the 20" M-Performance wheels. They're lighter and the handling is significantly better.

Agreed. 20 inch wheels look great on the G20.

19” Rims

Why does a 330i/Xi with M Sport comes with 19” rims? But an M340i/Xi comes standard with 18”. And 19” are a $600 upgrade. Makes no sense.

To be fair, the M sport option is $3,800

True. But considering the $10k price difference between the 330i and M340i, charging $600 for wheels is a bit tacky. My 330i came with the $600 19's and I cant imagine why the M340i shouldn't have them stock.

You need to have perfect roads to be able to survive no bent rims or blown tires with those wheels.

Thanks for the feedback/information. The roads I’m on are anything but perfect. Blew out one of my 18’s already. Don’t think I’ll press my luck. Thanks! Ps. Driving the M340 has been the most fun I’ve had in years.

19" tire will have more precise and quicker steer response. Higher stability when braking at high speed. More control in bends, especially in fast one. Bumpier ride, less control on wet, higher fuel consumption. I think that's all

I LOVE LOVE the 18s with go flat tires as well as having a spare tire.

I am super thankful BMW gave us that option. My car is pretty much loaded and I am so glad they did not combine some fancy wheels as part of a package.

18s ride better, tires are cheaper, they are more durable. This car is my daily and she looks awesome as is.

Now, if I lived in a place with with tons of sunshine, no winter and nice roads, I would be running 20" Mperfromance wheels but not in Seattle for a daily / leased car.

That is not true at all. I live in Northern VA, the Washington DC suburbs, and the roads are far from perfect. I've accidentally hit a few terrible potholes that made me cringe and after 2 years my 20" 794M wheels are in perfect condition.

The increased handling of the larger wheels is worth the money.

In the winter I do swap the wheels out for 19" wheels with winter tires.

They remind me of the rims that came with the original e46 M3.

I had 20s on my last car and bent one and had two blow outs. So I'm standing by my statement. Try driving on Oakland roads. I'm willing to bet California has far worst roads than you with the constant small earthquakes jacking up the pavement

Thanks to all who posted in this thread. We recently ordered an M340i with the stock 18" wheels, and I was wondering if I made the right choice. Seems like I did. I certainly don't want a bumpier ride, less control on wet, or higher fuel consumption.

Was thinking about swapping my 225/40/19's for 235/40/19's. I know the difference is minimal but I would gain 0.4" in width and only add 0.3" in height thereby only increasing the car's overall center of gravity by 0.15". The slight increase in sidewall could only help with shock absorption. Going with 245/35/19's would look better but then I am reducing ride height as well as sidewall. Wife already complains it's too low and too bumpy so wouldn't make sense anyway.

I appreciate this question. I was running 245/35/20 Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires. They looked great but were very hard on bumps and terrible up north in PA due to poor road conditions 60% of the year.
