40 kWh in 30 minutes is not terribly fast. But 4 cars are charging at the same time. It will probably be able to do better.
I think the 80 kWh battery pack is more or less official.
The i4 has already been spotted with much higher (peak) power.

I hope the i4 is only a hatch and has a normal trunk version.

The i4 is an electric powertrain in the new 4 Series Gran Coupe. That is a hatchback body.

An electric powertrain in a sedan with a trunk would be an i3. No such plans announced for the 3 Series.

Yea i know. But we havent even see the normal 4 series GC so is not 100% a hatch. BMW has the 2 series GC and it has a trunk not a hatch. Would be cool if the i4 had a hatch or trunk.

The current and new 4 Series Gran Coupe are 100% hatchback.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe is 100% trunk.

Bodystyle is a large investment with years of development for each model. If one wants a car similar to a 4 Series but with a trunk, BMW offers the 3 Series.

Can always put a bra on it. Make it look similar to this prototype!

I think it's pretty unlikely, looking at the i4 concept.

Though I guess they might change the texture of the grille to be more like what we saw on the iX

Don't mind the grille - it is what it is. But they have to do something with the bumper design. That is the biggest offender IMO.

I wonder if there will be enough room in the back for a dog?

I think the point was missed.

Looking forward, we have a 4 door hatchback EV from the 4 Series Gran Coupe coming. It is called i4.

By analogy, for those seeking a 4 door EV with a trunk, it would not be an "i4", as the 4 Series has no 4 door/trunk vehicles. That is the 3 Series. if we had a electric version of a 3 Series sedan with a trunk on the way, the logical parallel nomenclature would be i3, as that name would be available with the cancellation of the first i3.

By the way, BMW disagrees with you about the first generation i3:

BMW normally makes a 4 series gran coupe so the 4e series does have 4 door vehicles.

Yes, we all agree about that, and it is a hatchback which was the subject of some contrary speculation above. The i4 is a Gran Coupe with electric powertrain and is 100% hatchback. Not sure why this is a continuing question. It is described as G26 BEV.

The rear seat should generally be the same as what you expect for a Gran Coupe, although likely improved over the current generation to have some appeal to the orphaned Grand Touring owners. Your dog harness should connect just like it does today, assuming you are not getting a new Great Dane or similar!

Taycan is known to have a similar interior space to Model 3. Model S is much bigger inside. That said, legroom and shoulder room in my Model 3 is quite better than in my G30, not to mension trunk space that’s obviously very limited on my 530e. As i4 is based on a 4-series, I’m afraid it won’t be able to compete with Model 3 roominess. I would like to be proven wrong though as i4 could be a replacement for my Model 3.

Yes the i4 is supposed to be BMW's answer to the Model 3 $50K range.

Here's an interesting video with Elon Musk and Sandy Munro discussing quality. Musk admits problems and explains why and how they are being addressed.

Overall an interesting and candid interview.

My 78 pound chocolate lab fits comfortably, not necessarily happily, in the back seat of my M440i coupe.

Eagerly waiting for pricing and specs, but the hatch alone sold me on this being my first electric car. Any news on the reveal date?

Love the hatch. My next car definitely will be an EV. Not sold on the MY or the Mach E, but the practicality of a hatch makes the i4 a definite contender. Looking forward to seeing it in non-camo and reading the specs.

Not of course 100 % sure, but I would place my bets for the official reveal of early March/by mid-March
