Ordering Ventilated Seats?

Hi all,

I'm looking to custom order a G22 M440i in the next couple months. I really want to spec ventilated seats with the Mocha interior. I heard somewhere before that BMW's cooled seats are far less comfortable or adjustable compared to the standard heated-only seats.

Could anyone confirm this? Does anyone have ventilated seats on the new 4 series? I don't think it's an option on the 3s

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’ve had ventilated seats on 3 vehicles now though admittedly none were BMWs.

I opted to go without them on my M440. I found I didn’t use them often enough and when I did they didn’t work anywhere nearly as well or as quickly as the heating when the temps were reversed. Not worth it IMO.

Thanks for the input. In that case, might consider skipping them and going with the red interior color

Additional note - I had them when I lived in Texas and Arizona, so it's not like it didn't get hot enough to need them. It definitely was roasting my ass a few times. But in those times I found that blasting the AC and sitting on a towel did more to help than the seat ventilation did. I would feel the seat ventilation chilling my butt / back only about the same time that the AC blasting had cooled the interior enough for me to turn it back down. When I was in Texas I had a Ram 1500 Laramie w/ the seat coolers (active AC not just ventilated I believe) and a Camaro with no heated or cooled seats just leather. I kept a towel to sit on in both vehicles for those hot days.

YMMV but yeah I'd say just get whatever interior you want and don't worry about the seat cooling.

Good to know. I test drove a Caddy CT5-V on a hot summer day and noticed they had little to no effect as well. Similarly, they were just ventilated, no A/C. Kinda digging the Arctic Blue / Red contrast combo anyways.

On another note, how are you enjoying the M440? Any issues come up or smooth sailing?

Smooth sailing indeed, it would appear

Lol just tried building the car again for fun and it looks like they completely removed cooled seats as an option, for all interior options... That's odd, didn't hear about any options changing.

I have a 2021 BMW M550i, and when I test drove the car, it did not have ventilated seats and it was very comfortable. I ordered my car with the ventilated seats, and it is equally as comfortable. I would not worry about the comfort if I were you.

I inquired about this recently and this was the response. It's unfortunate but at least now i can order Oyster interior, putting deposit down tomorrow on custom order

"Thanks for contacting the BMW Genius Team regarding the 2021 BMW M440i Coupe.
As of March 1, 2021, the 2021 BMW 4 Series no longer has the option for front ventilated seats at the time of production. I regret any disappointment this may cause.

I hope this information is helpful. Thanks again for your inquiry.

Good to hear ventilated seats are just as comfortable. Lots of reviews out there against BMW V-seats.

I have that option and in the 4 series, when you could order ventilated seats, the entire seat is slightly different as you lose the adjustable side bolster. It loses a lot of bolster and if you like that hug feeling, you will be better off without.

My last 540i had ventilated seats. I barely miss them on my 330i, even in Florida. (Oyster leather and tinted windows help.) They weren't cooling like in most American cars with the option. The comfort aspect you mention is a factor with the massaging seats. I always felt like I was sitting "on" the seats, not "in" them.

Wow really? On the M550i with the Nappa leather you don't. I don't know why it is like that in the 3/4 series.
