Pirelli run flat warranty

Just noticed this today. Car is 2.5 months old with 650 miles. Tires are the all season Pirelli run-flats. Has anyone had any issues with the dealer honoring the Pirelli road hazard warranty? Pirelli covers full replacement within the first year or 2/32 of tread wear, and I have to imagine I'm still within 2/32 given the low mileage.

When I dealt with this 6 years ago on an X5, it took a few people at the dealer insisting that there was no warranty before I finally got the parts manager to investigate and agree that there is, in fact, an OEM road hazard warranty on run-flats from Pirelli. Wonder if I'll have the same problem this time. My guess is most customers don't realize that they're covered.

This is a very good point and a useful thread. I wonder how many people would or wouldn't claim this is under warranty. Certainly makes sense since the OEM provides a warranty on these tires.

I wouldn't worry that much about the tires. I worry about the rims. LOL.
Should've gotten that tire and wheel insurance.

This is exactly why you avoid run flats like the plague. Sidewalls are prone to bubbles and dealerships force you into tire / wheel insurance.

Why on earth does BMW force the run flats on people? Neither Audi nor MB do.

This is exactly why you SHOULDN'T get tire and wheel insurance. I've had 4 BMWs over the past 12 years. I've had 3 tires replaced by Pirelli and I've never had to have a rim replaced. I've paid out of pocket to replace 3 tires on my own.

So, the cost of 3 tires...versus the nearly $8,000 I would've spent on T&W insurance.... I'll keep my money.

I live in the Northeast, so yes, the roads are bad. But my last X5 had run-flats with 20" tires and never had a single bubble. Previous X5 before that had 19" runflats and no bubbles. X3 before that had 1 bubble.

So maybe I was due, but I really haven't had much of a problem over 4 cars fitted with runflats.

Then consider yourself lucky, if I hadn't bought T & W insurance, I would have spent $4000 on rim replacements. Then again, my mistake for getting runflats.

I'd love to get performance non-runflats. But I really don't want to pay for another set of rims, winter tires, changing them out twice a year, and probably another set of non-runflats when the lease ends due to tread ware. Plus, then I'm left with a full set of winter tires that I have no use for when the lease expires.

Maybe one day...

THIS is the problem. Run flats with large sized rims and low profile are asking for trouble. Then on top of that if you live in an area with shitty road conditions, that's icing on the cake.

Hey man. I've actually used that Pirelli road hazard warranty when I got a nail in my tire when the car was under a year old and had like 2-3k miles on it. I took it to discount tire and asked them about it after I pulled up the warranty information on it at home the previous day. They were kind enough to honor it after they spoke to Pirelli on how to manage the claim. They took care of it all for me. I just ended up getting the warranty on the tire at discount tires since they basically did this for me on good will since they really didn't need to do shit for me because I never bought tires from them for the new car... all I had to pay was the labor charge and the warranty for the tire. It just took a day to get the tire in since it's not a common runflat they carry in stock at their store.

I'd give it a shot if you have one nearby and ask about it.

This strikes me as something Pirelli would cover under their Workmanship and Material Warranty. RFT don't have a tread warranty, but they should cover a sidewall bubble.

And I am in the "never buy insurance (on retail items) " camp. Insurance companies spend a great deal of time and effort calculating what their risk is to assure the odds in their favor. I won't bet against the odds. So in a life-time of not buying insurance on retail purchases, I am financially ahead of the game. Of course, insurance does bring piece of mind, which makes it a worth-while purchase to many.

Discount Tire is the best. My buddy turned me on to them years ago when he told me how his wife had tire damage and bringing her car into a nearby DT and they fixed her up and didn't charge a dime. She never bought tires from them before. Same thing happened to me a number of years ago, the old nail in the tire situation. I remembered this story so I went to my local DT and sure enough, dudes got me fixed up and patched up said tire and I was on my way without having to pay anything. I too didn't buy my tires from them but I'll tell you what. I've bought tires from them ever since. They know how to take care of customers or make new ones.

ALSO, if you do buy a set of tires from them, go for the extra insurance for 25 bucks and they will replace them, regardless of how the damage happened. I heard about a guy that took his car in to DT and was told by one of the techs working there that his tread was really low and close to needing replacement. He said don't tell anyone I told you this but you can go ahead and puncture it yourself and bring it by and claim it under our warranty and we'll take care of it, no questions asked.

Spoke with the dealer today. Service advisor said to bring it in and it will be fully covered by Pirelli warranty. So that's good.

Evidently the H speed rated tires are on back order, so they are going to replace with a V rated tire.

Thanks for posting about this. I wasn't aware that Pirelli offered this warranty. Just had to replace two of my tires due to nails and only have a few thousand on my tires. Called Pirelli and they walked me through what the dealer needs to do. I'll be meeting with my local BMW dealership tomorrow to get this taken care of. Thankful for having a great service department as they haven't hesitated on the warranty claim.

$8,000 on wheel and tire insurance? Gimme a break.

I paid $1,500 (5 year coverage) for my wheel and tire insurance and I've already made 3 claims within 2 months for my non-RFT
