It's the same rules as the wheels/tires that come on the car. So you have to keep the wheels reasonably nice and return the tires above a certain wear indicator.

I understand that regular leasing rules apply but how do you put a residual rate on wheels/tires especially a second set? The first set is built into the MSRP of the car so BMW has already considered that regardless of the condition. The second set I know they don't re-sell, at least through their retail channels, so from a bean counter perspective it's just another added cost to them.

You guys in the U.S. have it so good at least when it comes to car buying.

I was wondering the same thing. My dealer called the Baltimore port and they said there is an "issue" with the MPE. Didn't elaborate if it's a logistical or technical issue with the part, but was hopeful that by May (my delivery) it would be back. Curious if anyone had any additional insight?

There is a shortage of MPE's. It sounds like it's not being offered right now and has even been removed from people's builds. Just a complete guess on my part but I'm thinking it's because so many people ordering 2021s are opting for the MPE since the exhaust was tuned down drastically compared to the 2020. My car arrived at the port yesterday and there's no work order for the MPE yet so I'm hoping it's still going to be added on.

Yeah, I can confirm this.

BMW issued a technical bulletin that the MPE has been discontinued on the M340 and M440s, till further notice. Cars with MPE on the build sheet had it dropped off and it's also been taken off the port install option tool. These are due to supply shortages.

Word is that it will take some time, no line of sight yet from AG on supply replenishment.

that's complete trash, so they nerf the exhaust and now they don't provide any OEM solution that would be covered by warranty? That's unbelievable....

So wait, just so I’m clear, even if your car had it on its build sheet, it was removed?

Yup! It was removed.

You can ask your dealer for the build sheet or check my garage - it would have been removed. The option code is ZA4 on the build code.

Really disappointing! I know.

Im in contact with my CA and he told me that its still on my build sheet (order on 12/22), so he saying he doesn’t see an issue. He will confirm though.

If they remove it, first, a call to BMW so I can trash them a little and then second, I’ll order the Dinan exhaust.

I also ordered an M340 in late December with an MPE (TB II). My car has been at port since 3/9 and the MPE still shows on my garage. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Definitely double check but that's a good sign! The MPEs are no longer orderable post sale by the parts dept. either.

Out of curiosity, your 12/22 order - how come it hasn't arrived yet?

Based on seeing others timeline, there was a delay in between when I placed the order (12/22) and when production started (1/18). I never questioned why it took so long in between these two points, but I’m guessing my dealer didn’t have an earlier allocation combined with the time of year (holidays). That said, it has been an agonizing wait, made even worse by this whole MPE supply debacle.

Edit: For those of you who know for a fact that you got screwed out of the MPE and are still looking for a replacement for stock, there is the Dinan unit that is currently on backorder - reached out to my contact and was told inventory should be replenished by April/May. AWE is another option, though I’m not sure how readily available it is.

BMW Genius didn't have an update today on the MPE order but he did tell me I SHOULD be good and that he hasn't seen them drop off any orders once the car is at the port.

This is great news.

Seems like they have dropped MPE for cars on order that have not yet hit port. For cars at port, they have supply - which is great.

Cheers,

M

All indications are were good; my CA told me there is nothing on his end that says otherwise.

If we do get screwed, just gonna spring for the dinan unit.

Yeah I'd like to say I would do the same but I'd rather build it in since I'm leasing. Although on my m240 I added a Dinan Mid Pipe and ended up selling it at the end of the lease for only a little less than I paid. Install was cheap too. Are there any videos of the Dinan on a 2021 m340 out there? Wonder how it sounds in comparison to the MPE.

Resale is strong for Dinan products. I honestly cannot roll around with the stock exhaust, so I’d 100% go for the Dinan exhaust. It is on backorder, so I plan on putting in an order, and in the event my car does come with the MPE, I’ll just cancel the order.

there are a handful of vids out there on youtube- here is one:

That's gotta be a 2020, no? Does the diffuser need to be changed or does then current piece around the exhaust just get removed? I'm sure I can easily research but I'm being lazy. It looks awesome. And I 100% agree that there's no way I'm rolling stock.
