Yes. Unless you have the track pack IIRC.

Believe it was a wheel selection option - either way the site builder used to directly state what was needed to remove it. And from what I can see it no longer does.

You had to have a 19" summer non-run flat tire option from factory in order to get it upped from the 130mph to 155mph limiter. I forgot about this during my purchase entirely, ended up with 19" runflats with 130mph limiter. I contacted my dealer 2-3 days after delivery - they said there was nothing that could be done. And it took my sales guy a good day searching around for that information to be sure. There's a specific option needed (again I think it's a wheel/tire combo) from factory for it to be enabled. Reasoning being is the tires are rated differently in terms of speed - so for liability I'm assuming the runflat/all-season options from factory are only rated up to 120-130mph.

This can't realistically be changed once the car has been delivered - a remap of the ECU is the only thing that can remove it after that.

I'm not too bummed out about it personally, but I do track my cars periodically and my last one was slightly less powerful than the M340i and I could do 120-122mph on the straight, so thinking I may have to take a gamble on an ECU remap JUST for that one function.

I would honestly be OK paying up to $500 to BMW directly or something for that limiter to be increased/removed. Just make it an option on the vehicle for people to buy like the other OTA options that can be enabled.

Kind of miffed. Coming from a Focus RS - I could get it up to 156-158mph from the factory with enough road in Mexico. So WTF BMW is presenting a performance vehicle, M340i, with that kind of a limit is the type of garbage Lexus does.

Sorry for the rant - this only affects me for like 10% of how I will use this car for. I try not to stew on it lol. It's honestly not a huge deal, and once the DME's are unlocked for the 2021's I will fix it.

It depends on the package and tires you selected. Run Flats are limited to 130mph. If you got the ZTK package for $1500 you get the following which also increases the speed limiter.

-19 inch front wheels (required for larger front brake rotors)
-Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires 225 front and 255 rear (with mobility kit with air pump since tires are non run flat)
-374mm front rotors and calipers (compared to standard which is 348mm)
-Extra radiator under the front bumper

Not a huge deal but this package is worth it IMO.

If you ordered the M340 with summer tires, either runflat or non-runflat it increases the top speed limiter. If you ordered with all-season tires top speed is limited to 130mph. Not sure where people are saying the summer runflats are limited too unless that is something new for 2021 but it wasn’t that way when I ordered my 2020.

Yeah, it's not hard to hit the limit...not at all.

Maybe not on the run flats being limited, but for 2021 there is no runflat summer tire option with the package being referenced required for the 155mph speed limit.

Either way, unless people know to go through the line item package selection options it's "masked"/not upfront on that detail.

Got it. When I ordered my 2020 I ordered it with summer runflats just so I could get staggered wheels and increased speed limiter. I didn’t want the spare in the trunk and I knew I was ditching the summer tires anyway.

I have the non cooling package M340 with run flats and can confirm it topped out at about 130ish. How often do you guys go faster than that to where its an issue lol

Really just track days. It’s just annoying it’s supposedly locked to it without a remap.

This is what I would have hoped for is that changing the tires adjusts the limiter. Too bad you probably didn’t test that speed limiter on the all seasons run flats?

That said 160-161 sounds right from what I’ve seen.

My 2021 M340ix has a setting in iDrive that allows you to scan a QR code for selecting the tires that are installed on the car. Is that something you've changed when going from All-Season to the PS4's? I wonder if that remaps the ECU?

I got all-seasons from Factory with my 19" rims just to be able to reuse them for winter tires in the future. Plan on getting new rims and summer tires here in the spring... wonder if I screwed myself by ordering the all-seasons from factory.

I actually lied, I recalled I did actually make a pull to 160+ on the all season run flats the day I got the car. I assumed the car was limited to 155 and the speedo is generous as it usually is in bmws. Again im 99% sure I dont have the cooling pkg, but ill double check. Ive been under the impression all m340s were limited at 155 regardless, however the highest number ive managed to see was 164. Weird stuff.

Biggest disappointment when I realized my car topped out at 130 which comes on in mere seconds. Even a lousy Lexus 4 cylinder IS has higher limits. Limiting to 130mph due to having all - seasons is plain stupid especially in a car with this much power. Furthermore, many of us who ended up with all- seasons have already swapped out to Michelins PS4S anyway. 130 top speed should be for a car with 200hp or say the 330i but not on the M340i.

Going through this now, which is part of the reason I traded in my car after a month for current set up of staggered with non runflat PS4S

Not if you pull the limiter fuse. (Video is an M5, but apparently it applies to ALL BMW models). Cheers.

Not all BMW models have the same fuse box layout so....
Would have been more helpful in the video if he could elaborate more on what exactly that fuse was linked to so it could be referenced in other Fuse layouts to try. The G20 series is nothing like that fuse box from what I can see.

No, I did 270kph with mine. I believe the natural limit is 300kph based on guys who have had the limit coded out.

I have a ‘21 M340i on run flats & mine is 110% limited to 130. Actually almost got beat by a charger because of it.

Any one removed the limiter without a DME unlock ?
