Ultimate OEM 395mm Brake disc upgrade for our cars? (w/pics !)

since someone already posted that the 5 series brake calipers fit our cars, along with the 395mm wopping big dimpled and slotted 395mm discs
as posted here:
https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1751100

I was considering this upgrade but didnt want the extra weight of the upgrade, and was willing to wait until the aftermarket caught up with 2 piece units.
but was looking and waiting and saw Alpina is offering these 2 piece units that are stock on their B3 cars and im assuming it has a part number associated with it.
with actual holes instead of dimples and the 2 piece aluminum rotor design, i'd figure it would weigh as much as the stock m-performance discs.

Even the rears get the cross drilled action but this pic of the configurator is all i could find on the rear. and THAT also looks 2 piece as well. could these be re-branded next gen M3 discs with just the alpina logo? ( looks like the next gen m3/m4 will have different calipers though)

These are just ///M 395mm discs that have been rebranded by Alpina - the drilled nature is identical to the ///M discs.

X3M / X4M ///M discs fit the G20 G30 etc with the use of the 4 pot 395mm caliper - the issue is that the retaining screws do not line up with the non M hubs. Everything else is perfect thought, I have checked.

Alpina have obviously fixed this, and these would be the "perfect" solution for a pure plug and play solution.

The issues are:

a) finding the part number - I emailed Alpina in Germany months ago and they won't divulge it.

b) even if you manage to get it - they will only supply to owners who can provide a VIN number / proof of ownership

They will have the same issue with the retaining screw not lining up. The ///M cars have M specific hubs. On top of that, the G80 discs will quite probably be the wrong offset as the incoming M3 uses the same 6pot caliper as the F90 M5.

Which will use a radial bracket mount to fit to the G80 hub, in the same was as the X5m does.

Interestingly, you can mount the F95 X5m 6 pots onto G20 hub (as it comes with a radial bracket from factory) in conjunction with X3M 395mm discs and it fits with only a very small amount of adjustment needed.

Good catch. maybe Zimmermann will have a non-branded alternative.

Unlikely for the Alpina version as it’s a tiny niche market!

The only hope is to try and find a friendly Alpina dealer who is prepared to order you a pair as a major favour!

What do you mean here by "with only a very small amount of adjustment needed" for the F95 X5M 6 Pots? And what about the rears?

Thnks sir

does anyone know - i've always wondered if you put stronger, larger, different spec brakes

does the ABS and stability control need to be reprogrammed?

this has always stopped me putting bigger rotors

I assume these would require 20" wheels given that the M Performance 374mm ones barely fit in a 19". I could also imagine this has some impact on the caliper mounting that would need to be worked out. Oddly the calipers in the picture actually look the same as the M-Performance ones (Brembo rebranded 4 pot and similar shape) just on a bigger rotor with cross drilling.

No issues with caliper mounting and they would fit under some 19” - but not all!

The caliper bodies are different when you see them side by side but you are right in the fact that they look super similar!
