Is it true about Rain X with BMW?

I have read a few threads regarding Rain X windshield fluid destroying fluid reservoir sensor. How true is this? I have 5 cases of Rain X de-icer (yellow) sitting at home.

The manual has a warning not to use it. It doesn't mention Rain-X specifically but any fluid with silicon which Rain-X may have. It is not specific to BMW's, Audi's have the same issue from what I have seen.

I have never hear anyone having problems with those using Rain-X, the problems that people have encountered is with the sensors.

So I contacted the manufacturer of Rain X in Montreal today. They told me there is zero silicone content in the Rain X De-Icer Yellow that are sold in Canada. Maybe there is silicone in the Orange stuff, but not the yellow stuff.

You can always try to and if you see there is a problem then drain and flush it out. Hopefully that will stave off any long term effects.

I use the BMW washer fluid. I ask the Service Director if they carry it and he said he will give me some. When I picked up my X5 from an oil change there was a case of it in the back.

I have been doing a 50/50 mix of the blue BMW washer fluid and the green RAIN-X. I've had no issues with sensors and I get the full RAIN-X water repellant effect.

I would avoid the orange winter/de-icer RAIN-X washer fluid. Anecdotally, that seems to be the fluid that causes the most issues with the sensors.
