G20 M340i : upgrade to 20" ?

Hello, fellow bimheads,

I need a little help to take decision, so I am humbly coming to seek your opinions and experience.

I am currently running on stock runflats 19". My area is not exactly famous for perfect road quality. To be frank, I really don't like the ride quality I am getting.
I am sure swapping out the runflats for traditional tyres will help a lot, so I have started researching. After finding a company doing 100% custom forged wheels, the temptation is getting stronger. I really want to order a set of forged 795m styles in frozen/brushed dark rose gold.
And of course, I am wondering if I should get them in 19" or 20".

Strictly speaking of ride quality, do you think a 20" set with normal tyres will be worse than 19" on runflats ? Or same ? Or better ?

I don't have much experience to compare : my only previous car was a 2005 Honda CR-V that felt like a floatind cloud, no matter fast I was taking the potholes and speedbumps.

If you really think the 20" will be as uncomfortable as the 19"RFTs, then I will request the guys to forge a 19". But such beautiful rims would look so much better in 20"

From my personal experience and after owning both and currently running a 20" wheel I would recommend a 20" with a set of Michelin P4S.

OP, I'd stick with the 19's for 2 main reasons:

(i) you already alluded to the fact that the roads around you are a bit rough...there's peace of mind in having extra rubber meeting the road. This coupled with the fact that...

(ii) your previous car allowed you to have a driving style that didn't take potholes too seriously...going from that to the rubberbands you'll have with 20's on your G20 is probably not the best idea.

I've been running aftermarket 19's with PS4s on my M340i for about 2.5 years now, and the setup is comfortable, grippy and just enough cushion for an unruly pothole or 2 for me not to break a sweat.

Thank you so much for your reply
Yes, the more I read, the more I am leaning towards a 19" set.
I have another question, though.
My factory 19" RTF came in
225/40R19
255/35R19

And my aftermarket wheel company is recommending to go for PS4S with a flush
235/40R19
265/35R19

It seems to me that there is more than enough space to fit taller tyre sidewall. If going for the 19" (thus opting for the confort approach), why not going for a tall sidewall and improve the pothole situation ?
Wouldn't a setup like 235/45 and 265/40 fit easily ? Maybe even taller ?
May I ask what are the specs you are running for your 19" ?

PS : Forgot to mention that I am running stock suspension, so I have huge gaps to play with, between my wheels and fenders.

The way you get rid of the gap is to get Dinan lowering springs which drop the car a conservative 1 inch (25mm):
