I would get the 22. ID7 (best ID IMO), buttons, and no ugly sreen. Then add a 25 flat bottom steering wheel and you are all set.

Having owned both (a 21 manual with ID7 and a 23 xdrive with ID8) at the same time for a few months, I found it really hard to go back to the ID7 car , it just felt so dated after getting used to the new display. Unless you’re an old-school purist needs physical buttons type, go with the new display.

I actually prefer the look of the screen in the 23 instead of the traditional dash, but wish it had the OS and some buttons from the 22...

I say go with whichever has better price or nicer looking spec (in your opinion). You'll be able to use either one just fine.

Functionality-wise, I much prefer ID8. Appearance-wise, I also prefer ID8, though that is purely subjective.

Same. The screen in my old iD7 looks so small now.

Curious. Did you use your preset buttons on your 21?

I used mine for many things like 1-3 was call a family member
4- display off
5- sirius favorites
6 -car play
7- sports display
8 - mpg screen

Im having a hard time giving that up. I wish they would have keep that button pad for the ID8 too. Then maybe I could learn to accept it.

ID8 is pushing me go back to Porsche...lol.

Yes I used them extensively. It took a little adapting and some of my usual “workflows” are maybe a little different now but it hasn’t been an issue. Keep in mind you still have presets and you can access them immediately by sliding the idrive wheel up and rotating/clicking to select. You can also do it by swiping down on the sceeen but you don’t have to touch the screen to access them.

It's not like you're giving up the favorites though in iD8...they are just a click away, rather than having them in the open (which was nice to have for sure, but I've gotten used to the one click on the screen to get to favorites in iD8).

Oh!!! That is really good news to me! Thank you for explaining that.

ID8 "wheel forward" shortcuts is a decent replacement for this. I use mine to go directly to Waze in Carplay with one forward and one down click.

MPG screen can be seen with one click of the turn indicator stalk left of the wheel.

Having both Porsches and BMWs (models from 22-24), I have to say ID8 is still better than any of Porsche's systems. ID8.5 is better than ID8 as well, but unfortunately not avail in M3.

I have a 23 and it has the standard look. You’re talking late 2023 models. For me the new flat cardboard look screen is very dated and looks cheap. It just does. And ID7 works fine. We don’t live in our cars folks.

Best bet would be to test both cars and then see which one you can see yourself living with.
Both have their own merits.

Don't settle, especially with the bag you're about to drop.

It's not about late or early 23 models. Yours has iD7 because the M4 didn't get ID8 until the 24 model year. All 23 model year M3's got iD8.

I prefer the more traditional, driver oriented ID7 look. The 2023 isnt awful, but it def seems a bit awkward as it doesnt feel very integrated. I wouldnt not buy one due to ID8 though.

I have the ID8 on my '23 but would trade it for the ID7. I do miss the physical buttons and integrated dash layout better.
