As of late BMW has been lowering residuals and raising money factor. For a loaded M340i it's possible.

for a loaded m340i it's more than possible. i thought you meant 330i.

the m340i will not be cheap any way you look at it. there's a lot going on with that car on paper so expect to pay to play

I wouldn't mind that price at all. M3 residuals are also lowered now too, down to something like 56% for 36 month/12,000 miles. So everything is becoming more expensive.

A stiffer chassis is always better. That allows you to tune the suspension more accurately. And tires are easy enough to change out that they're almost a non factor. It also makes the car feel much more solid and premium. It's a major part of the difference between a luxury car and economy car.

Styling is subjective so I understand if you don't like the styling. IMO, I think the styling is a good evolution of the 3 series. I usually reserve judgement until I see a car in person.
That's correct a variable diff it does have kudos for that however its barely going to be felt by most drivers.. the ES ediff simulates one well enuf for most drivers on the road.. I personally prefer a real Diff so kudos to them for finally adding one.. one series too late
I prefer the effects of a stiffer chassis but doesn't mean the great grandpa or soccer mom does
Its an ok styling looks pretty good from certain angles but imo when the eyes dwell a bit more the grill and the lower rear starts to biotch

money factors are going up because interest rates are higher... money isn't free.

I bought my F30 and when I sold it 4 years later the resale was pretty terrible.... there is a part of me that is happy the residuals are coming down, anyone who bought a BMW in the last 5-6 years was subsidizing those lease rates. At least its fair now.

I was just thinking at this and wondering if they have addressed this tiny issue called driving pleasure that we look for in a car like 3 series. E90 in stock form was absolutely a blast to drive. F30 provides with a video game sensation not a road connection. If I am not mistaken it is drivers like us who enjoy this connection driver-car-road that played the PR role for BMW and gave the 3 series it's fame. Now we criticize the direction 3 series is going and we talk "shit like this". Well give us back the driving machine and "shit like this" is going to be a very positive shit.

That's good to hear. Maybe the demographics of BMW owners will change for the better. No one should be seen in a 340 bimmer for 500/month rent fee. You should be driving a Camry.
It should be driven by folks who can easily afford a 1000/month payment.

Sorry but you can't possibly forecast lease numbers like that. BMW will definitely provide incentives toward leasing and bring the monthly down to sub ~$6xx for 340. BMW might not be building the ultimate driving machines anymore but the sales/finance people are still professionals at what they do.

Wow.. you know things are off the rails when you dismiss valid criticisms.

"First thing and this is for me the most important thing; you can drive fast and completely relaxed. You don't feel how fast you are."

I could not feel more different than this statement. I get this for the 5er but the 3? Especially for the sporty variants, isn't the whole idea to feel engaged and feel like you're moving fast? Otherwise we just keep throwing more hp and more tire at these cars and they're no fun at all despite being quick. Isn't feeling something the whole damn point?? Certainly conflicts with the back breaking suspension on the M branded models.

By moving to a cheaper car that sells better, I am sure they will do quite well in revenue. But how long can they rest on a name that was established by driving feel? At some point there isn't really an advantage of buying a BMW vs other cheaper brand with similar level of cartoonish overstyling. Just save a few bucks and drive an Optima.

Psychologically I don't want to break the $1,000 barrier for a lease. I'm actually paying $505/month for my 340i lease. It was a dealer demo with 3,000 on the odometer. But then again it's like ~3% of my monthly income... I'm cheap

You know what's the most ironic thing here? That 10Best list the 3-series is on? It's from 2013. That was the F30, the same F30 everyone raved about when it was released and hates five years later.

Revisionist history? BMW stopped buying ads in car magazines? Who knows. But it's always struck me as funny how a car everyone gushed about in 2011, 2012 and 2013 suddenly became the poster child for everything wrong with BMW.

I have a 2016 340xi w/ track pack. I've had two E90's, three E46's, and an E36. This 340 is by far the best of the bunch.
All journalists rave about new cars--they have to in order to maintain relationships. This is why I ignore reviews, they are inherently biased. I respectfully disagree with your 340 assessment. Better in technology but certainly not driving feel over the E46.

My E90 sounded like it the whole car was exploding driving over the smallest potholes. The LCI F30 is lightyears ahead of it in every way.

We have to accept that the 'old' 3 series spirit is now the 2 series. Just got an M2C and lemmie tell you, the only thing I have driven that really, really reminds me of my old e46 323ci. Obviously more power better brakes etc, but the soul is spot on. Washed it for the first time yesterday, and this may sound kind of stupid and silly, but it washed just like my old E 46! However, will the 2 be around in a few years...
