MFR'ing Location from Production Number?

Is it possible to determine the location of manufacture from the production number?

alternatively, can it be determined from the destination port?

All 3 series are built in Mexico, you can tell from the VIN when you get it

All 3 series for the US market and likely some other markets as well.

If the VIN starts with a "3", as in '3MW...', it's built in Mexico.

If the VIN starts with a "W", as in 'WBA...', it's built in Germany.

As I understand it, all those are built in Germany, I don't believe they have an alternative source for the US market (someone please correct me if this is not the case).

I think if your production number starts with 0, its likely a Mexican build.

production numbers don't have anything to do with production location. They usually determine what region the production is for--starting with 6 or 7 is usually US market. 0 is another region and the reason we are getting production numbers that start with 0 is because BMW AG is shifting units away from that region to the US market.
