Are you able to confirm that you're in sport plus? I know that the sport-individual settings can get reset after updating so it may be worth a look if you drive in Ind. I still have yet to update for this reason but some are reporting changes and others aren't.

Some of ya'll will never be happy.

Just drive it. Quit finding problems that aren't there.

If you think you've got a case, start a class-action and PROVE that there was a downgrade in sound/performance.

I have an early 2019 build and it's incredibly easy to make the exhaust pop and burble. I just did an OTA update a few days (7/2020.80) ago and my exhaust is exactly the same.

That's good to hear...your car was one of the first on the G20 forum and I came back multiple times to look at it.

I still love the conspiracy that the first M340s were too fast and BMW had to go back and detune all of them..

Yes, sports plus confirmed. It used to burble, pop and bang (bang = loud pops). Now it just burbles with occasional muffled pops. Definitely no more bangs. Like I said, I take a very repetitive route to work with no traffic and I always experience the same speeds/conditions/shifts. This is how I know it's not my imagination. If I had to pin a number to it, I would say it's 1/3rd as loud as it used to be.

The car's performance doesn't appear to be neutered though. However I have found myself recently needing to use the paddle shifter for better 1st to 2nd gear shifts to prevent revhang with dynamic traction enabled (PS4S tires)... which I had never needed to do before. I suppose the weather is too cold and cold tire/road traction limitations sort of stop me from doing an apples to apples comparison in that regard.

Conspiracy theory: Maybe that's the reason why BMW waited for the winter to release their software in North America. They figured people are babying their cars for the winter and won't notice a change in exhaust and performance. By the time spring/summer arrive with optimal driving conditions, people will have adapted without realizing the car's dynamics are reduced.

I have an idea: Shut up and stop making assumptions that any of us are unhappy or that we want to sue the manufacturer. I love my car and I'm not complaining, just stating observations. I'm not even implying this is a "problem". The simple math is I noticed a change after the update and I'm coming to the place where people go to discuss these things to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. That's what these forums are for after all. Is that too complicated for you to understand or will you instist on further trolling?

Maybe you should mosey along to a different topic if you don't have anything to contribute specifically to the topic of the thread!

Uh huh.

But realize, your observations aren't actual truth. It's just your opinion until you can prove it.

Use the right instruments to figure it out and then you can come here and bemoan.

I'm not trolling. I'm holding you accountable for what you're incorrectly trying to state as fact.

People like you will never be happy with their vehicles and that is the most sad thing about this discussion.

Did the OTA update three days ago. Didn't drive it much until today. It is absolutely a different vehicle in sport plus. Not just the exhaust, but the performance. I'd go as far as to say 85% of what it was previous to the update.

Anyone know if the dealership can revert back to the previous software? Yes, it is that bad. Even with android auto, I would much prefer to have the old characteristics.

They say there is no going back but one would think that technically it can be done but likely not due to policy.

I'm genuinely intrigued. I find it highly unlikely that a software update that's technically supposed to be universal affects some cars and not others - a M340i with premium package, for example, is the same for all in a given region so why would a software update affect one car and not another?

I would agree, I have had no change in "pops" etc with 11/20.45 . In fact, I drive seems to work a bit smoother. This of course is my subjective observation, like everyone else here, unless instrument tested.

If we bought a car, then its characteristics changed by the manufacturer in a way that's not preferred by the owner without the owners' consent, why is the owner not entitled to be upset about it?

Dealers quieting down the pops & bangs is not unique to BMW. Audi is neutering gen 2 R8's as well. So I won't take my R8 in for service, since they will force a software install that will quiet the exhaust sounds.

It is pretty pathetic that the OEM takes control of your car post ownership. I don't understand how they can do this without your consent.
