I think he means mixing manufacturers front and rear, not rotation. No problem in mixing manufacturers as long as not on the same axle.

I meant different brands not different sizes, ie Bridgestones on the front and xxx on the rear.

Exactly..thanks, then that might be the way to go. Need something more durable on the rear without sacrificing performance. Gotta be something.

I personally wouldn't mix tyre brands. You may get away with it, but you are opening up yourself to possible unsettled driving dynamics. Particularly if this rapid tyre wear is due to geo' calibrations.

I could add some user experiences with mixing tyres... but suffice to say, it is not always a good move. I'm aware of BMW and Michelin getting involved with user cars, only to find the solution was simply keeping with one tyre brand and spec'.

BTW... just following the trouble shooting process on rapid wear. Are those with rapid wear also suffering EV range issues? Rapid tyre wear due to poor suspension settings uses more energy to get along. Tyres can literally be scuffed off. That costs mpg, or EV range.

And are we only talking 330e issues here? Anyone with conventional ICE suffering? Maybe suspension settings unique to phev models (?)

@higlandpete ‘Out of interest, what's the tread wear rating on the tyres, current fitted to the 330e?’

Where do I find the tread wear rating? Is it on the tyre?

Yes, will be on the sidewall of the tyre. Something like;
Treadwear 280 - Traction A - Temperature A

I believe that if you have xDrive you shouldn’t mix fronts and rears either - keep 'em the same all round.

@HighlandPete

My 330e is running Pirelli P7 Cinturato and is marked as Treadwear 320 - Traction AA - Temperature A.

I have 225/45/18 and 255/40/18 if that’s relevant. I’m also not sure having only done 2,700 miles that the rate of wear can be accurately judged yet.

Finally I’m lucky that mine is a company car but I’d also be concerned if I was paying for tyres as it does seem, on a small sample, to a bit heavy on tyre wear.

Can you measure? If you’re suffering the same wear rate then you’d be at about 6mm if we assume 8mm for new.

So many variables here its hard to get an idea if this is a fixable issue just by switching tyres, or something more in the design/setup of the car.

Is it just RFTs people seeing issues on? Seems they have a bad reputation for wear anyway.

Problem doesn't seem to be isolated to the 330e, but then still not convinced that's the case.

The 18” are not RFT. would be useful to get a list of car model, tyre type, manufacturer and size, and mileage and approximate wear.

No xdrive here. But yes i'd imagine if you had xdrive it's probably best to keep them all the same manufacturer.

18" alloys with Pilot Sport 4 runflats here. (320d)

10k miles. Fronts on 5mm, rears on 4mm. Seems pretty reasonable.

That’s not bad. Was that a new fitment as the 18” wheels currently do not have run flats.

yes what I'm saying is those wheels do not come with run flats now. Obviously they used to, but no longer. Those wheels now come with normal tyres and a mobility kit. That's what's on my order and also per the brochure.

Ah my bad! That's a lot better, would prefer that tbh 😂.

I wonder why they changed that, must save some cost?

The car is a March 2019 so early build.

I don't know why they changed - the 17" and 19" both still come with run flats and from a manufacturer perspective when buying tyres in such volume I'd imagine putting the motability kit costs more. No idea why it changed but I'm quite happy to go with "normal" tyres.

That's a good wear rate for European UHP tyres.

What we also need to know, is the new tread depth. It is not always 8mm as many assume. Some new tyres are ~7mm.
