Looks nice. I would have liked a Touring but no lease options when I was looking last March.

Nicely done. Which did you do, unplug or remove the spring?

Surprised at how much difference it actually makes to the noise.
In the end I decided against removing the spring link from the actuator to the flap. Whether the flap is open or closed the spring provides some pressure against the end-stop - I'm guessing that was done as a metal flap in a metal tube could make a terrible noise if it rattled even slightly. I let the valve open (with a resounding clunk) in sport mode and then unplugged the actuator. I covered the socket with some waterproof tape and placed the connector into a small poly bag secured tightly with a cable tie, and then cable-tied the plug to the bracket to stop it flapping about. Works OK

Very nice Xenon!
2 questions: Does your car have non-runflat tyres and how is the sound system? Am I right in thinking you don't have HK but the 330i gets the Hifi option?

Thanks SG. No RFT fortunately but they are Bridgestone which is usually not good - however I haven't done enough miles (and no motorway-speed miles) to establish if they are noisy or not but the refinement generally is a world away from the F series.
You are right that I do not have the HK but do have the HiFi. (as you probably know, base system is 8-speaker 105W, "HiFi" is 10-speaker 205W) and although I haven't done a lot with it yet it sounds much better than I expected. I imagine the bass would run out of steam if that's your thing. It isn't mine, so I'm quite happy with it

Does the 3er Touring have an electric load cover? I really liked that in the 520d loaner I had, it worked when opening the glass window as well which I thought was very handy and one of those well thought out features.

That's also good to hear (no pun intended) about the hifi system. I prefer a balanced sound, so I'm sure the HiFi system will be more than adequate.

No - such a shame. Really liked that feature in my A6 Avant.
Whilst I was at handover I peeked under a 320i and for whatever reason that does not have an exhaust flap.

So, after a few days playing with my new 330e my main observation is that, when in hybrid mode, it's REALLY hard to tell whether you're running on petrol or battery.
I expect there's something in the cockpit that I've missed, but so far I'm just going on feel / sound. The engine is both quiet and well insulated. (But I have come from a diesel!) |

Think the "best" place to tell is on the Energy Flow screen. "Hey BMW show Energy Flow". Bit gimmicky though.
I'm still undecided on the best mode to be running in. At the moment I have it set to start in Electric only mode as thinking if I got the juice in the battery, I should use that first. But charging the thing up takes a while, and is playing havoc with my electric bills according to the smart meter display Just need to wait about 2 weeks and then I can switch supplier, which will take the sting out of it a bit.

BMW Truck went to pick it up on the 4th from docks at Southampton (my dealer is there), and a recall messaged popped up on the dash apparently... spare part needed, so I am only getting it Monday I am told it needed a replacement charger cable (it's a 330e). Anyone else get a recall message? (My fleet manager did on wife's car on the 4th too) Patience is a virtue

No recall or anything?
My car's been there since 12th Feb, maybe your dealer picked it up earlier and changed it in time... Last edited by jedpause; 03-06-2021 at 02:19 PM.. |
