I love this pic, I hope the Mexican plant is as successful as the SA plant. When I got my 330I and saw it wasn't made in Germany, I was bummed for about two minutes until I goggled the plant. I love that I have one of the last Rossyln 3ers. Hope BMW Mexico has the same quality.

All my German cars are solid, including F30. Mexican plant has big shoes to fill.

I had a German f30 with a terrible steering rack and pinion issue that required involving bmw field engineer and other legal professionals. I bring it up because your post insinuated German built cars are perfect . Atleast transit time should be shortened . |

Actually my current GTI is hecho en Mexico and no gripes at all so far (2017 w/ 19K miles). ACC was misaligned initially but that was a supplier issue apparently and fixed under warranty. No glitches since nor squeaks, rattles, etc. I can hear my sunglasses rattling around inside the holder over a speed bump but that's it.

Mexican made cars “tend” to be a bit better than 1st world country made cars for a number of cultural reasons that I wont talk here among other things... I can assure you given the chance I would take a Mexican made car vs ROW, they have one of the finest manufacturing workforce that actually take pride on their job vs looking down upon it like most 1st world countries.

I wonder what this means for European Delivery of the G20. This will be my third BMW and I was looking forward to picking this one up at BMW Welt for the first time.

South Africa F30s have better reliability and build quality than German F30s so for everyone crying out G20s built in Mexico, you should ask why German F30s aren’t as good as South Africa.

Actually, San Luis Potosi is in central part of the country and located north east of Mexico City.

There is a lot of trial and error involved with mastering an assembly process. I've seen a production plant be in business for 30+ years, switch to a new chassis and errors occurred like: fuel lines not attached completely, electrical harnesses not latched, fuel feed pipe not connected to tank, suspension components not torqued to the optimal value. They will have their trials and tribulations - some of the important variables are to learn from mistakes, proper training of the associates, and avoid boredom. For sure they will deal with turn over as the San Luis area, and surrounding areas have a lot of manufacturing competition.

I work in manufacturing and making parts for automotive, medical and DOD. We need to meet ISO quality standards ISO/TS 16949 Some manufacturing facilities may do short cuts but they are getting audit and can lose license. It depends more on design and testing then anything else
