So I ordered my M440 on Dec 8th 2020, just spoken to BMW Canada customer service and got my VIN today. However was told initially the production is scheduled in Feb 2021. So my question is, how soon will the car be in production after being assigned a VIN number?

Your dealer should be able to tell you the exact week it is being built.

However avg rule of thumb is if you have a VIN within ~2-3weeks

Ordered 8/21
Order received 8/22
Scheduled for production 8/24
Began Production and VIN Assigned 9/3
Body Assembly begins 9/11
In Paint Booth 9/14
Entering Assembly Line 9/15
Ready for a Transport 9/16
Awaiting carrier Assignment 9/16
At the Port 9/18
In Transit aboard the Horizon Highway 10/5
Arrived Baltimore 10/27
Arrived Dealer 11/6

The ship sat in Nova Scotia for over a week for some reason so the transport took longer than the norm.

This is a very helpful timeline. The last time I spoke to the dealer, all they know is Feb production, was not able to give me an assigned week. I guess it works very differently between US and Canada, we always get less in everything. Judging with your timeline, I guess I should expect delivery between end March to early April.

Ask them for a copy of the order sheet. My “sold” order had the build week.

For Canadian, they only show Production Month. Mine says 2

Another exciting day. Called BMW customer service and found out that my car is out of Paint booth and entering assembly. Judging from Vetteguy's timeline, I should be seeing her in person by early to mid March. ��
